DMS Chapter 27
The moment Flinx entered the monkey’s area of attack, he immediately cast the Stoneskin spell. The spell enveloped him in time to receive a few attacks from the monkeys. Thankfully, his defenses were enough that he didn’t receive any damage from the monkeys’ attacks, but he felt that his defenses weren’t enough for higher monsters than the monkeys. He decided that once this expedition was over, he would research the best thing that he could do to increase his defenses.
There were around 11 or 12 monkeys, based on a quick count. The agile monsters were spread far enough from each other that a Chain Lightning wouldn’t work. Flinx just shrugged and decided to target the monkeys one by one. He sent a couple of motes of light from his Crown of Stars towards the nearest monkey, followed by one cast of the Magic Missile spell. That killed the monkey.
At first, Flinx thought that the moment he killed one of them, the other monkeys would be scared and run off. Instead, the monkeys became angry and all of them actually ran towards him to personally butcher his face for daring to attack one of them.
If Flinx was being honest, ten monkeys rampaging towards him caused him to panic a bit. Because of that, he mindlessly sent the rest of the motes of light from his Crown of Star spell and then cast all of the Magic Missile spells that he slotted on the cantrip slots. Several tens of glowing bolts followed the five motes of light and hurtled toward the monkeys. When the Crown of Stars lights and the bolts from Magic Missile met the monkeys, none survived for too long.
Each of his Magic Missiles had 5 bolts, and because Flinx cast all seven Magic Missiles, he realized that it was overkill. The monkey’s corpses were full of holes from the bolts of the Magic Missile. Thankfully, he only needed to cut off the paws of the monkeys because, according to the Adventurer Guild book, the best thing that he could harvest from monkey-type monsters was their paws.
Flinx started butchering the monkeys when he was sure that all of them were dead. First, he cut off the monkey’s paws, cleaned them using the Prestidigitation spell, and then stored them in his 4th tab space. Then he started rummaging in the monkeys’ bodies to search for their mana stones. He was extremely grateful for the Telekinesis spell because it allowed him to rummage through the corpses without dirtying himself.
The monkeys gave him five mana stones, and only one of them was as huge as the mana stones that came from the trolls. The rest were only low-level mana stones. The experience points that the monkeys gave him were below what the trolls gave.
Flinx didn’t linger too long in the monkey’s area and cast Fly to start moving forward. Of course, he didn’t forget to summon his owl familiar to scout ahead. He knew that he was still very far from that dangerous zone that the adventurers that he talked to in the tavern mentioned, which was why the monsters that he encountered were still a little weak.
After about an hour of travel, Pip notified him of something. When he used his familiar’s eyes to check what it was, he saw that it was a dipidated town that was almost buried by the forest pnts.
Flinx thought that the town was probably abandoned by the residents when the forest grew over it. He then saw the undead lingering in the center of the town. The undead looked like the typical zombies. Moaning and moving slowly around, but he didn’t want to take any chances. He refreshed his Mage Armor and Fly spell and flew towards the ghost town.
He knew that the only reason the dipidated town was not completely buried by the forest was because of the undead. Flinx also knew that the best spells against the undead were fire spells, but he didn’t want to cause any forest fire, so that’s why he stuck to using arcane spells and lightning spells.
Flinx flew way above the undead monsters, so they didn’t notice him. He saw that a couple of them were more ferocious than the others, and more than likely, they were the “boss”. There were a lot of zombies. Around 24 of them. He wasn’t worried since he was way above the monsters. He cast all seven motes of light from the Crown of Stars spell to one of the zombie bosses and then cast a new Crown of Stars and sent the new seven motes of light to the second boss. That killed the two bosses, but based on what he had seen, the spells that he cast were overkill.
All of the zombies became ferocious and impotently started roaring at him. Flinx leisurely killed them one by one using his Magic Missile spell. When all of the spells were cast, he would just wait a minute, and then the cantrip slots were refreshed.
Soon, all of the zombies were dead. Flinx sent his familiar to explore the town to make sure that there were no hidden monsters that would suddenly jump-scare him.
Flinx was surprised to see several items in one of the houses. The house was in the center of the dipidated town and was probably the house of the leader of the town. He assumed that they were enchanted items that adventurers who had been killed in the forest owned. The undead, for some reason, probably collected and gathered them here.
There were swords, armor, shields, boots, helms, and even pieces of jewelry. He could feel magical emanations from the items, and more than likely, they were enchanted items. He would need to purchase the Identify spell so he could identify the items, but he would do so once he returned home.
Flinx stored them in his 4th tab space and checked his experience points. He saw that he was 60 percent till he reached 1 percent. That information made him realize that it would not be easy to level up.
After that, he started doing the gruesome thing of trying to explore the bodies of the undead to gather the mana stones. At first, Flinx thought that the bodies of the zombies would make him feel nauseated, but apparently, after two years of retrieving mana stones from the bodies of goblins and the other monsters in the wizards’ dungeon, desensitized him to such actions. He stored the mana stones in his 4th tab space. He pnned to check the total gains once he was back at home.
Flinx checked the time in his system, and it informed him that it was noon. He wasn’t feeling hungry, especially after dealing with the corpses of the zombies, so he decided to move on.
After flying for an hour, Pip informed him that there were two rge reptile monsters ahead. The two monsters seemed to be guarding some sort of bush that had berries or fruits that were about to ripen. Flinx remembered reading in some cultivation novels that monsters would guard pnt treasures. He wondered if the situation was the same. He decided that he would lure the two monsters away from the pnts, and once the monsters were dead, he would check if he could harvest the fruits. He then remembered that some treasure fruits needed to ripen on their tree and wondered if this situation was the same.
Once he was near the two huge reptiles, Flinx observed them. They looked like those Komodo dragons that he had seen on the internet, but rger. He wondered what they were. He suddenly thought that maybe they were basilisks. If that’s the case, should he avoid staring at their eyes? He decided to test it out by commanding Pip to attack the reptiles.
The owl did so by doing some feint attacks. One of the reptiles actually ignored Pip, but then again, the other one started attacking the owl by lunging at it. Flinx commanded his owl familiar to look at the reptile’s eyes, and after a minute, the owl was petrified and fell.
