DMS Chapter 28
Goosebumps appeared on Flinx’s skin, and he was gd that he had tested the monsters first. He dispelled his familiar and thought of what kind of attack he should do. He didn’t want to be petrified since he had read a novel wherein a basilisk would eat its prey alive once it was petrified. He briefly wondered if sungsses would work against eye magic. Of course, he wouldn’t try something that stupid.
The only thing that Flinx could think of was to bombard the two monsters from a distance with his spells. He first cast the Minor Illusion spell to lure the two basilisks away from the pnt, and once they were far enough away, Flinx started attacking them using his Crown of Light spells. He cast all seven motes of light to one of the basilisks, then cast another Crown of Light spell and cast all seven of its lights to the second one.
The two spells destroyed the basilisks. He almost kept forgetting that the Crown of Light spell was a powerful 7th-level wizard spell. Flinx summoned his familiar and had it checked to make sure that the basilisks were dead.
Flinx then went near the basilisk and started harvesting its eyes. Based on the Adventurer Guild’s book, basilisk’s eyes were valuable. After cleaning the eyes of the basilisks using his Prestidigitation spell, he stored them in his 4th tab space. He then started searching for the two monsters' mana stone by casting the Telekinesis spell and using a knife that he purchased from his system. The mana stones that came out from the basilisks were the same ones that he retrieved from the trolls’ corpses, so that probably meant that if the trolls were medium-level monsters, the basilisks were the same.
He briefly checked his experience points and saw that it only advanced to .65 percent till it reached 1 percent. Flinx felt exasperated, so he decided to check his experience points at the end of this expedition. At first, he thought of checking the experience points after every battle, so he would know how many experience points the monsters would give him, but the small amount of points the monsters were providing stressed him.
Flinx suddenly smelled a very sweet smell. He saw that the fruits in the pnt that the two basilisks were guarding began to ripen. He commanded Pip to touch the fruits to make sure that they were not poisonous to the touch, and since nothing happened to the owl, it was safe. For a brief moment, he pitied his familiar since he had been using it for everything. He was gd that it was not a sentient being.
He purchased the Identify spell for 3 low-level mana stones and then cast it to identify the fruits. There were actually only three of the fruits. Identify informed him that the fruits were powerful ingredients for healing and regeneration potions. Flinx just shrugged and stored the three fruits in his inventory. He felt a little disappointed at the fruits. He felt that they were weak compared to the reason why the basilisks were guarding them. The only thing that he could think of was that the fruits might have some hidden effects once they were added as ingredients to potions or something.
After he was done with everything in that battleground, Flinx reflected on his st battle. He was relying too much on the Crown of Stars and the Magic Missile spells. He thought of purchasing other attack spells, but the fact that he could slot spells on any slots to the limit of two slots above or below meant that he could slot Magic Missile on the cantrip slots, and its damage would only be reduced by 20 percent. If he slots it up until the 3rd slot, which was the limit, its damage and effectiveness would increase by 40 percent.
Flinx liked the Crown of Stars since it had a one-hour duration, which meant that he could cast it again immediately once a battle started while the first one was still active. The said spells also wouldn’t cause any forest fires.
He suddenly wondered if he could abuse the Crown of Stars. Since its duration was one hour, and the 7th-level spell slots only had a 7-minute cooldown, that meant that he could spam the said spell. He decided to test it out.
While Flinx was flying forward with his owl familiar scouting, he cast the Crown of Stars every 7 minutes. It worked. After three castings of the said spell, there were 21 motes of light floating above his head. He discovered a problem, though. It was extremely bright in the area where he was, to the point that it became annoying. It would have been grand to attack enemies with a total of 56 motes of light because that was how many motes of light he could summon in an hour, but the light effect was disturbing him so much that Flinx dispelled the spell. He cast the spell again, a single time, and let it stay that way.
After an hour, Pip informed him that it was trapped in some webs. When he used his familiar eyes, the part of the forest that the owl stumbled into was covered in webs. That meant that the next enemies would be spiders. Pip moved back and forth, trying to free itself from the webbing, and Flinx finally saw the spiders that made the web through Pip’s eyes. The spider was as rge as a cow. That surprised Flinx a little. The monster was huge. He wondered how many spiders there were.
He didn’t want his familiar to experience being eaten, so he immediately dispelled it. Flinx knew that the fastest way he could defeat the spiders was to use fire, but again, he didn’t want to cause a forest fire.
Flinx entered the area where the spiders at and used the spell Bigby’s Hand to cause a commotion. He wanted to check how many spiders were there. After a few seconds, the big spider that he had seen through his familiar eyes appeared, followed by a bunch of smaller ones. There must have been hundreds of the spiders.
Flinx immediately cast all of his Magic Missile spells that he had slotted. There were 7 in the Cantrip slots, 7 in the 1st level slots, and 6 in the 2nd level slots. Flinx multitudes of bolts from the Magic Missile spells met the army of Spiders. He then sent the seven motes of light from his Crown of Star spell to the rgest spider monster.
Flinx was mesmerized when his spells met the spiders. The csh between the glowing bolts of his Magic Missile spells and the spiders, and the csh of the seven motes of light from his Crown of Stars spell with the boss spider, was something to behold. For a moment, Flinx just paused and admired the fireworks. If the spiders were something that could survive the spells that he had released, Flinx would have been endangered because, after his initial spell casting, he didn’t move anymore and just watched.
After the csh was done, there were no spiders that survived, including the huge spider that looked like the boss of this area. For a moment, Flinx felt powerful. He was proud of himself and thought that he wasn’t that scared dungeon miner sve who banged his face on the ground to make it bleed so that the wizards wouldn’t find him interesting. He even wondered why his face wasn’t disfigured. It was probably the weekly healing elixir that the wizard gave the Earthlings. Everyone kept drinking them since they could only keep a total of three potions a week and had to return the unused ones.
