Jack made his way through Freshman Hall with a big smile on his face. Now that he made some friends, it was going to be an easy time through high school, at least he hoped. No one had shoved him in a locker yet, so that was a good sign. He made his way to his locker quickly, getting his textbooks, and quickly made his way across the hall, his shoes tapping on the ground as he was almost skipping. He made his way to Adam, who was going through his locker. Inside, Jack could see a few things: the same book he had seen him read the other day, a picture of Leonard Nimoy taped to the inside door, his usual schoolbooks, and some kind of white fabric he couldn't make out at first, until Adam reached for it and put it on his head. Jack had an idea of what it was. “Hey, Adam!” Adam turned around and shut down his locker; the hat still perched upon his head. “Hey Jack... how are you?” “I’m okay, I guess,” he paused for a second, “I see you have your...” he couldn't find the name of the hat, “Your... Jewish hat on” Adam laughed. “You mean my kippah?” Jack sighed, “Yeah, that... couldn't remember, there aren't any jews in rural Virginia.” Adam slipped into a slight smile. “Well, it’s Friday, and it’s Hollywood, so you might see more than mine today. I always wear mine on Fridays and Saturdays.”
Jack had to admit this made him nervous; his encounters with religions before were not very welcoming. It was then that Cassidy said behind them in a louder-than-normal voice, “Hey, my nerds, what’s up?” Adam replied, “We're just talking about religions.” Cassidy shrugged, “Religion is not a big deal for me, I am catholic, though I only go to mass... about.... 3 times a year.” Jack replied, “I used to be religious, kind of fell out of it.” “Faith is not for everyone,” Adam replied. It was then that they heard the sound of a crowd. The three turned around to see a crowd of students huddled around one student. The boy was tall but not as tall as Adam; he looked the same age as the three of them. He had thick, dark brown slicked hair and light brown eyes; he wore aviator shades and fingerless leather gloves. To Jack, he was conventionally handsome. Cassidy rolled her eyes and groaned, “Oh, it's just Billy... this happens every Friday.” Jack cocked his head. “Billy who?” Adam replied, “Billy Vercelli.” Jack shrugged. Cassidy replied, “Son of Steven Vercelli, lead singer of the Dynamics.” Jack replied, " Who were they talking about? “Oh yeah, they were popular in the late 70s and early 80s.” Cassidy replied, “Yeah, exactly.”
Adam looked over at Joel, who was coming toward them in the crowd. “Well, Mr. Vercelli is coming this way.” Cassidy rolled her eyes and sighed before turning back to face Billy who was right in front of her with his sunglasses off and said to him “Hey Billy” Billy smiled and slicked back his hair and said in a Brooklyn accent “Hey Cas, it's been a while” “Yeah it has been while Bill ” Billy smiled “Yeah we had a good time didn't we ?” “Yeah, it was, but.... that’s over now... Joel,” It was then that some of the girls in the group giggled, not many people called him by his first name. Billy smirked, “Well, if you want to go out again ... let me know.” Cassidy laughed, “Maybe when pigs fly.” Billy sighed, “Well, you can't win them all,” he put on his glasses again, “Got to get to class anyway...... let's go!” His group then moved down the hallway. Cassidy sighed, “That handsome ... jerk.” Jack smiled, “So... what's the story there?” Cas responded, “Last year, he and I dated in middle school... For a year... I don't want to talk about it.” Adam shrugged. “Yeah, sure thing, Jack and Jack need to make it to history class anyway,” Cas replied. “Yeah, I need to go to math... See ya,” She headed off. Jack and Adam walked down to the end of the hallway, and Adam chuckled, “Relationships... am I right?” Jack saw this as an opportunity to get more info. "So, you've lived in California your whole life?” Adam nodded, “Just about since I was two, the middle child of Seven.” Jack reeled back in amazement, “Wow, six brothers and sisters?!” Adam smiled, “Yeah, big family... what about you?” Jack sheepishly replied, “Just me and mom, and of course all the aunts and uncles who came out of the woodwork when she became rich.” Adam chuckled, “Yeah, the same thing happened after my dad wrote all those books, relatives you never knew from Ohio, New Jersey came asking for you, something.” Jack sighed, “Yeah....” As the two were walking, neither boy had any idea that they were being watched by jealous eyes as a blond-haired, well-dressed boy was watching them. He pushed in his glasses. “Hmm, it seems like I have competition.”
