VOLUME 8 – BONE AND STONE (Prologue)

Gu Qiqi loves looking in the mirror.

In her bag, she always carried a mirror that could be folded down to the size of half a palm. When opened, it was as tall as a person. It was a gift from her mother, said to be made with the tears of Narcissus, capable of reflecting the most beautiful image.

However, Gu Wuming couldn't care less about his sister's narcissistic behavior. No matter how much she stared into it, all she saw was a pile of white bones. To put it in a more fttering way, Gu Qiqi was like a well-arranged, delicately curving skeleton, her bones more polished and whiter than usual, like the st snow of te spring.

But, no matter how beautiful, it was still just a skeleton. This was an unchangeable truth.

The Bone Yaokais living in the world were already few in number. Since the death of their parents, Gu Qiqi and Gu Wuming had no family left other than each other.

Gu Qiqi had once mentioned to her mother that she had a cousin, but this cousin was restless and dissatisfied with a quiet, secluded life. She had gone to take over a mountain, opening a white-bone cave where she would dress in the skin of young girls, luring passing men and women into the cave to devour them. Eventually, she was killed by a mischievous monkey that had jumped out of a stone. She met a grim end.

Gu Qiqi, of course, had never met this cousin, nor did she like her. Because she ate people. To Gu Qiqi, humans were meant to be observed. They wore different clothes every day, had different expressions, did different things, and used their strength to gradually change the world. How interesting they were! Why would anyone want to eat them?

Moreover, she hates seeing blood. The bright red liquid flowing from the human body makes her dizzy; it's quite an unpleasant feeling. He couldn't imagine what it would be like to see Auntie tearing apart those humans. Besides, are human fruit tarts even tasty?

I actually really want to watch Gu Qiqi eat a fruit tart. But she always just takes it away.

I'm genuinely curious about what a bone yaokai looks like when eating. I even mischievously wonder if the food they eat would leak out from between their bones.

The fact is, every time Gu Qiqi comes to buy fruit tarts, both the fat and thin ones are scared half to death by her. Because she always comes at midnight, and out of goodwill not to disturb others, she walks silently in a floating manner.

That night, Pang Zi guy got up in the middle of the night to make a te-night snack. While eating tangyuan, he walked outside and suddenly bumped into him. A tangyuan slipped down his throat, stuck, and he almost choked to death.

I know she is a curious bone spirit, as if she can never get enough of the world around her. Even when buying an egg tart, she can't help but take a tour around my yard.

Curiosity killed the cat, and the bone spirit's curiosity almost killed the fat one. The fat and thin ones have a lot to say about her, unanimously agreeing that she should cover herself with a decent yer of human skin before coming out. A skeleton walking around is just too much to bear.

But he remains unchanged, always appearing before us in the most original and simplest form. She said this is great—no need to perm her hair, no need for makeup, not even needing to buy clothes. Just living simply like this, eating her favorite egg tarts—how rexed and carefree.

She always comes to buy egg tarts on weekend evenings. I know her schedule, so I always put the freshly made egg tarts in a special insuted box to ensure they are warm when she gets them. Because neither the fat nor the thin would ever want to bake egg tarts for a skeleton in the middle of the night

But Gu Qiqi hasn't come for almost a month. The egg tarts prepared for her have repeatedly become our own breakfast.
