Sixty Five

The younger woman had changed out of her heavily scented work clothes that smelled of food, sweat, stale smoke, and anticipation. In her excitement, she then fluffed her hair, took a quick wet-wipe bath, spped on some tastefully light makeup, and went to gather her friend. For they had become nascent friends. They were both hoping to solidify that this evening. Both were as excited as the other for the oncoming evening, only JooHyun was more subdued about showing it. But that was to be expected. JooHyun was JooHyun after all.

Soo-young literally burst out of the kitchen door after a quick job of primping and saw her friend waiting. She grinned an extra special smile just for her. You could tell that was a real smile as opposed to the one that she used for work. That smile for her friend was based on warmth, not professionalism.

Even though the never shy Soo-young was the one to make the suggestion, she knew that JooHyun would not enjoy the fsh and attention that Soo-young normally reveled in. So she decided to make it a low-key night instead. Or, as low-key as these two absolute beauties can ever be. One calm, mature beauty. One younger and more impetuous beauty. So, rather than her normally eye-catching outfit emphasizing her face and figure, she was in mom jeans and a t-shirt with a little white Maltese printed on it. She added a light jacket to the ensemble, as it was still a bit chilly at night.

“Who knew that you could be so girly?”

Soo-young just stuck her tongue out at the older woman. More ughter ensued from both.

The younger woman gathered the older woman’s hands and pulled her to her feet. This was when they noticed their size difference. Even in fts, the younger woman towered over her diminutive friend who was still in heels. Soo-young grinned at the woman who could not reach her eyes standing next to her. JooHyun pyfully punched her lightly in the stomach for mocking her (ck of) height. There was enough strength in the punch to receive an over exaggerated ‘Ooof!’ and an unrepentant grin. The younger woman kept ahold of one of the other’s hands and pulled her out the front door of the restaurant. They both were ughing at themselves like drunk fools, just drunk on happiness.

JooHyun let herself be dragged by hand to a local and nearby karaoke bar by the over enthusiastic younger woman, who was trying to live up to the energy of the pup on her shirt.

They were chattering like a pair of over caffeinated teens. They were as silly as they both could ever want to be. JooHyun tugged on her hand, but rather than pulling away, she looped her arm through the younger woman’s arm – much to Soo-young’s surprise. Her grin managed to get wider and warmer. The older woman had a smile to match and they both started ughing for no reason other than sheer happiness.

They were chatting about mostly inconsequential things. How their days went. What they wanted to do tomorrow. They talked about some of the patrons from the restaurant, and how both of them thought that the owner’s toupee was too obvious. They had a free-flowing conversation and just followed where ever it went with no particur topic involved. Both of their hardy ughter was never far from the surface and frequently spilled over into the surrounding. Much to the joy of anyone who was within the sound of their trills.

Noticing that they were starting to pull the attention of passersby, they scurried off into the club. Anyone familiar with 1970’s television might think they looked like ‘Lavern and Shirley’. As they passed by people, they left the scent of strawberries, a sweet musk, and the air from the restaurant in the air.

They descended the steps into the club. They were not paying enough attention and they both nearly tripped. Rather than correcting their behavior, these idiots just keep on into the club ughing, if anything, even harder.

As they were gasping for breath, JooHyun calmed down enough to pull out a credit card to reserve a room faster than Soo-young. With a superior smirk, she grabbed the room token and led the way to the room.

The person working the counter sighed in relief as they unduted off into their room. They were gd that they had caused little fuss on the way. Having worked there for three and a half years, they had a sense of people. These two were going to be trouble with a capital T. The best thing was that the rooms were as soundproofed as well as the cheap owner could get them to be. Which was surprisingly well. But not complete. So, when people got loud, they could be heard in the hallway. These two were going to be hallway bait.

Soo-young was working, so while she got a nibble here and there, she had not had a proper meal, so she went to the menu to get some snacks and something substantial to eat and some drinks. As she was more of and a better foodie than her, JooHyun let the younger dy do all of the ordering.

While Soo-young was ordering food, JooHyun went to the song pylist and started ordering songs. From what she knew of the other, Soo-young knew that she could trust the choices of music to sing to the older dy. So, JooHyun started picking songs. Some for herself, some for the other person. She had to gauge how well the younger woman could and would sing. She had a feeling that she would not be disappointed. The st thing was to find a duet to see how they matched together. She had a feeling that apart, they were both going to be fantastic. Together, they would be incredible. She knew that she was right, but not sure just how right she would be. She was excited to find out. They both were.

They had ‘duets’ in the restaurant, but that was just messing around. Soo-young was at work, so they had to take frequent interruptions when she was in and out of the backroom to deliver meals and all the other things that she had to do while at work.

How was time to find out what they sounded like when they sang together and meant it.
