“Yes, I think we are.”
“What will you have, JooHyun-Unni?”
JooHyun gave her the order. She was hungry from post workout calorie deficit. So, she ordered more than usual, to which caused Soo-young’s eyes to widen. Then she gave JooHyun a side eye. But, she never seemed to gain weight, so she can do whatever she wants.
Soo-young thought “’The customer is always right’ my ass.”
That smug smile was really beginning to annoy Soo-young.
Still annoyed, she moved on to the next and raised a single eyebrow.
Seulgi gave a grin that was more straightforward than JooHyun’s. Giggles were boiling under the surface at the poor girl’s embarrassment, but she exercised some personal strength and was able to maintain a straight face. Mostly. One giggle started leaking out, but she managed to fake it into a cough instead.
It was still obvious that Seulgi was still trying to py it straight by not ughing. Still, it was amusing to her how she had turned psma red and fled into the kitchen. Granted, everybody was amused to have seen it. Even the manager. Especially the manager. It’s rare for anyone to be able to get a trick over on his best employee, many have tried. Most have failed. The manager frequently failed. But this JooHyun seemed to have a magical talent to have some wicked pranks that not even Soo-young can counter. This was one such night. That table is going to be getting a discount for the amusement.
Seulgi responded with a simple, ”Hi, I’m Seulgi. I’ll be having…” and gave her order as well. She was enchanted by the slight blush creeping up the younger woman’s cheeks. There was something deeper going on that she had not been made aware of yet. Rather than being annoyed, she became more intrigued. The younger woman and JooHyun obviously knew each other, so, she will patiently observe as their story reveals itself.
Wendy went next. “Hi, I’m Wendy. I would like…” and she gave her order as well. She wasn’t giving a hard look, but she was observing every detail about their waitress. The bck hair did not have mismatched roots, so bck was her natural color. Her eyes were a natural warm brown with no miss colored contact ring, so again: natural. Her clothes were form fitting, so if she had been wearing butt or hip pads, they would have been obvious – her exceptionally feminine figure was 100% all her.
Under this hard-eyed and painfully obvious scrutiny, Soo-young looked back with equal intensity. Her observation of Wendy was just as obvious and just as informative.
Katie cleared her throat gaining Soo-young’s attention.
“Hi, I’m Katie. I’ll have…” and she listed off all of what she was wanting with a graceful inelegance. Her total ck of obvious interest was unexpected. Once done giving her order, she started talking to Wendy with an insouciance that dismissed the waitress. If Soo-young had been less observant, she might have been affronted. The lingering side-eye look, her pausing every time Soo-young spoke, and the hanging on to every word gave the lie to her dismissive attitude.
Soo-young was unsure if the girl was being mock-arrogant or truly interested but trying to give her some time and space to not overwhelm the poor girl. Again.
But, as always, the giggles were still there and near the surface. There was joyful ughter behind her eyes. There was no way that Soo-young could take offense to anything this wonderful girl said or did.
Soo-young put her green pen into her strawberry-colored apron and then gave another 1000-watt grin and flounced back into the kitchen, ponytail swaying as if there were a heavy wind, without another word. The mysteries all around remained unanswered.
Once the old and squeaky kitchen door closed, it sounded like a low wind blew through the restaurant.
Everyone started gossiping all at once. Our girls started interrogating JooHyun with a police detective level of intensity. JooHyun mostly gave frustratingly vague answers and a beautifully evil Cheshire grin to everything else. Katie strived to look like the least interested, but her curiosity was killing her. She actually punched – none too gently – JooHyun in the arm at one of her non-answers. This actually caused a less catastrophic round of giggles. The older woman could have gotten upset with her junior but she was having too much fun teasing these pranksters. JooHyun thought that she was an agent of Karma and dishing out the same annoyance that they have given other people. She just kept smiling. This annoyed everyone else involved. Even Soo-young, who was in the kitchen and could not even see them, got seriously annoyed for a reason that she could not expin.
Everyone else in the restaurant started gossiping about them. About half of the patrons knew of JooHyun and that she had a special retionship with Soo-young. No one knew about the other three. It was obvious that they were newcomers. But who were they? What did JooHyun say to give such a powerful response? No one knew any real answers, so rumors and specutions were running wild. Each is more ridiculous than the next.
The kitchen door opened suddenly. Soo-young came out carrying several ptes. The fragrance was incredible as she whisked past JooHyun and company to another table. She smiled, thanked the patrons for waiting, and wished them an enjoyable meal. Totally professional, but still friendly and warm enough to melt butter.
On the way back to the kitchen, she did not forget to smack JooHyun on the back of the head as she went by. This caused another round of ughter on the offended party’s part. This was evidently not a rare event. She was the only one ughing at the table because the rest looked on in surprised horror.
Seulgi and Wendy were shocked at the sudden physical interaction and the continuation of the ughter by both parties.
Katie was shocked for a totally other reason – when Soo-young walked by behind her, on the way to the kitchen, she trailed her fingers across her shoulders. A trill of golden ughter followed in the waitress's wake. This also included the gre of the affronted girl which was part of the reason for the ughter. First blood was drawn in the future prank wars.
