Chapter 7 Lets Go Play

  Chapter Seven Go Play

When night fell, Ya Tou, standing at the corner of the main hall, couldn't help but shiver.

The weather on this mountain is much colder than at home after entering autumn.

She couldn't help but wrap her arms around her shoulders, the night in the mountains was darker and quieter than anywhere else, and the calls of unknown birds and beasts were especially clear.

Just as she couldn't bear it any longer and her teeth were about to chatter, a light knock at the door came from not far away.

The girl's nerves suddenly tensed up, her breathing stopped, and she stuck tightly to the wall.

Not long after the knock on the door, a small figure emerged from the courtyard of the master's residence and creaked open the door.

Although the darkness of the night separated them, Yatou seemed to be able to see this figure clearly. Her body couldn't help but tremble again, her fingers fiercely pinching the palm of her hand, anger and fear intertwined.

A big and a small figure quickly flashed into the courtyard over there, and the gate was plugged up.

The girl waited for a moment, then ran away trembling.

It took a lot of effort to steady her trembling hands and unlock the door, and then she quickly locked it again. Leaning against the door panel, she panted heavily, but suddenly saw a figure standing under the corridor, which frightened her into a scream.

  "It's me." said Jingniang Cheng.

The girl patted her chest and took several deep breaths before calming down.

"Daughter, what are you doing standing here?" She quickly walked forward and saw that Cheng Jiaoniang was only wearing socks and standing under the corridor, so she said.

"Look at the sky," said Cheng Jiaoniang, slightly raising her head to gaze up at the night sky.

Pitch black, without a single starlight.

The girl withdrew her gaze, what's so good about looking at this...

"Girl, it's getting cold outside, don't stand here barefoot." She said, helping Jingniang into the house.

The two of them sat down in front of the bed, with Yatou's expression tense.

"Daughter, that thief has really come," she said in a trembling voice, "what shall we do?"

  Jiang Nang nodded.

  "That's easy," she said.

How come the bad guys came and it's all settled? Yaotou didn't understand, but she didn't ask. She looked at her mother under the lamp, if it were another woman who encountered such humiliation and shock, she would have been angry and sad, crying uncontrollably, but from start to finish, her mother remained calm.

Looking at her calm face, the maid's anxious heart seemed to have been comforted, and she couldn't help but smile wryly. Who would have thought that a fool could bring people comfort, and it seemed to be relying on her.

"If he doesn't come, it's actually more dangerous. He'll definitely take a risk and we won't have time. He came, which means he's afraid. He wants to make a plan with that woman, thinking of a way to deal with me being an idiot. They'll turn this into a misunderstanding and then comfort you, telling you not to make a fuss. This way, they won't bother us again and we can temporarily be at peace."

The girl suddenly felt relieved and her heart became even calmer.

"It will be clear tomorrow whether it is or isn't," said Cheng Jiaoniang as she slowly lay down.

These words left her utterly exhausted.

Ya Tou busily helped her tidy up her pillow, covered her with a thin quilt, and sat down in front of the bed, looking at Cheng Jiaoniang who had closed her eyes.

She thought of what Cheng Jiaoniang had just said and suddenly sat up straight.

"Daughter, are you saying that we're safe for now, but what about later? They'll still be after us..." she said in a trembling voice.

Jiang Nang lay still and didn't move or speak, as if she had fallen asleep.

The girl didn't dare ask again. After all, this matter was terrifying, and the daughter-in-law was even more terrified than herself. Don't keep reminding her of it over and over again.

She turned off the light and pulled down the curtains.

As is often the case with all household chores that she has to do by herself, it's impossible to finish during the day, so those washing and cleaning as well as pickling vegetables have to be done at night.

The kitchen lights up, and a small figure is busy.

Jiangniang in the house slowly turned over, slightly opened her eyes.

"After that? They won't have another chance." She said slowly.

When it got light, I heard that Sister Chiang was going out for a walk again, and the maid almost cried.

"My dear, let's stay at home, it's too dangerous outside," she said.

"Staying at home, you'll never know what dangers there are and won't have a way to cope with them, that's the most dangerous thing." Jingniang said, supporting her arm, "Let's go, don't be afraid."

Really no need to be afraid?

The girl trembled as she opened the door and let out a sharp cry, instinctively grabbing the door bolt.

"My lady, forgive me, my lady, forgive me." The man kneeling at the gate knocked his head on the ground, "Yesterday was all my fault, I offended you, my lady. I admit to being wrong and accept punishment, only begging for your mercy to spare my life."

  He burst into loud wailing.

"My family still has an eighty-year-old mother and a three-year-old child, the whole family is counting on me to survive." He shouted, knocking his head, "Spare my life, madam!"

The host standing by also followed with a shout of reproach.

"You dare to be so rude to me, and you still want to live?" she shouted angrily.

"Immortal maiden, immortal maiden, I truly wasn't intentionally entering the young lady's chamber that day. I was only going to take a look after hearing the young lady call out for someone. I really didn't do anything!" The man cried out in grievance, "If you don't believe me, ask the young lady herself."

"My wife is mentally handicapped, whatever you say goes, how can she testify?" The presiding judge shouted.

"That's not right either, you can't just say whatever you want and have it be true!" the man shouted loudly, with a wronged expression.

The girl's eyes widened in anger and her heart was racing with rage. This must be the countermeasure that this pair of scoundrels came up with last night!

She thought her daughter-in-law was foolish, so she wanted to shift the blame onto her daughter-in-law. Whatever you say is what it is, a fool says whatever and nothing makes sense.

They just didn't know her daughter wasn't stupid.

The girl grasped the door handle and stepped forward, about to speak.

  Jiang Nang's voice echoed afterwards.

"Go and catch butterflies," she said.

The girl was taken aback, and Guanzhu was also stunned, but the kneeling man was overjoyed.

"Look, look, it was yesterday! He shouted, pointing at Jingniang, "Yesterday she called me in and told me to catch butterflies for her. I said there were no butterflies on the mountain at this time, and she cried and made a fuss. I was scared and wanted to coax her, and then you all came in and beat me without saying a word!"

I really didn't expect this fool to be able to speak, and what he said was so timely and spot on.

Men are easily seduced by beauty and cannot hide their desires.

The girl was surprised in her heart but understood her mother's reminder, so she held up the door and didn't take another step forward.

"Well, then you can't just enter my home's courtyard either. My daughter is foolish and doesn't understand things, do you not understand things either?" she said with a trembling voice.

It's done, Guan Zhu and the man both let out a sigh of relief in their hearts.

"I don't know if your wife is an idiot." The man hummed and said.

"Alright, Huang Er Lang, don't think you can take advantage of me and still act smart. I let you deliver firewood to earn some money because I saw that your family is struggling to make ends meet. But this has made you unscrupulous, who allowed you to wander around my temple?" The master of the temple shouted, glaring at the man.

The man pouted and fell silent, unwilling to speak.

"Alright, alright, since it was a misunderstanding, don't be angry, Half Cabbage Girl." The master said, then glared at the man, "Still not leaving? This time I'll spare your life, but don't come to deliver firewood again in the future."

The man muttered a few words and walked away.

Guanshu let out a sigh of relief and smiled as he reached out to take the door bolt from Ban Jin's hand.

"Alright, alright, I've sent him away. From now on, he won't be allowed to take half a step into the house. Miss Half Cabbage, calm down, it's all my fault." she said.

Ban Jin bit her lower lip, wishing she could slam a door shut on this woman's head.

"Go and play, go and play." said Jingniang from behind.

Ban Jin let go of her hand, and Guanzhu was overjoyed to see that she had listened.

"Alright, alright, little sister, you're really shocked this time." She said, "Tonight I'll personally cook in the kitchen and make a few dishes to calm your nerves."

The girl hung her head and didn't even want to look at her.

"I'm taking my wife out for some fun," she said.

"Alright, alright, go ahead." The host said with a smile, patting her arm, and sighed, "You've really worked hard."

The girl didn't say anything and supported Cheng Jiaoniang as they walked away.

Watching the two disappear into the courtyard, a hint of a triumphant smile appeared on the host's face.

"I told you, one silly and one little fool, aren't they easy to coax?" She said, wandering away.

Two little children sat slowly on firewood in the corner of the wall.

  "Sister, let's run."

This time, sister didn't answer, in the shadow where morning light couldn't reach, two little children sat trembling.
