Chapter Fourteen Beauty
Cheng Si Niang whispered "not good" and hastily nodded in agreement to change the subject, but Cheng Liu Niang on the other side still smiled.
"You're only eight years old, what's so impressive about you?" she said.
Cheng Qiuniang glared at her with a flat mouth.
"She said, 'I'm better-looking than you, Liu Niang, everyone says so.'"
"Who said that? You also believe in coaxing children's words?" Cheng Liu Niang said with a smile.
Cheng Silang could no longer bear it and hastily stood up to bid farewell. The sisters were all preoccupied with the urgent matter at hand, so no one paid attention to him.
Cheng Silang walked out and let out a sigh of relief, hearing the women inside chattering and already making a ruckus.
He shook his head and walked through the garden towards the outer house, smiling secretly as he went.
He also knew early on that a new sister had come home, but it wasn't a new sister. At first, he still had some impression of this cousin.
On a winter day, the chubby and silly little girl lying on the bed emitted a stinky smell. He peeked out from behind the nanny and happened to see that the girl showed him her eyes full of white pupils, scaring him away in a hurry.
Cheng Si Lang shook his head and got rid of this long-forgotten impression.
The girl's giggles suddenly came from above her head.
Cheng Silang was taken aback for a moment, but there was no need to be evasive. The sisters in his family lived near this garden and usually only they came here to play.
However, at this time several unmarried girls in the house gathered together and quarreled, presumably because of the maids passing by.
Cheng Silang casually raised his eyes and saw a figure flashing by on a nearby mountain rock.
Vermilion skirt, clouded hairpin shining brightly, slender and delicate figure.
As the road turned, the mountain rocks suddenly opened up, and it was clear that a 15 or 16-year-old girl was standing on the rocks, smiling brightly as she stretched out her hand to pull down the hanging willow branches, with a radiant smile.
The mischievous little girl made Cheng Silang's mouth curve up into a slight smile. Which sister was this little girl in front of? He hadn't seen her before.
He looked at the girl, and couldn't help but slow down his pace. The girl pulled off a willow branch and quickly knelt down, Cheng Si Lang exclaimed, it turned out that the girl wasn't alone, another woman appeared behind her.
Cheng Silang glanced casually, just one glance, and before his eyes it was like fireworks exploding.
Black hair scattered, straight eyebrows and a curtain of hair, slender and long eyebrows, bright and profound eyes, high and straight nose bridge, thin lips condensed, neck long and slender, wearing a plain black robe with wide sleeves, intersecting at the collar and below, under the mottled sunlight, shining brightly.
With just this glance, Cheng Si Lang could no longer see the brilliant figure of vermilion sand that he had seen earlier. His eyes only held this woman in simple black attire.
I used to think that colorful things were dazzling, but now I realize that the most eye-catching thing in the world is actually colorless.
He stood still, then saw the woman's gaze turn and look over at him. She was neither happy nor angry, nor did she move or wave, but just quietly looked at him.
Cheng Silang had never seen such a gaze before, as dark as night and as deep as an abyss.
"Hey, which one are you?"
A female voice sounded, and a figure of cinnabar suddenly blocked the line of sight, rescuing Cheng Siliu back to consciousness.
Cheng Silang felt his footsteps were light and floating, so he hastened his pace and hurried forward.
There was still a woman's voice of doubt behind him.
"Which one is it? Scared me half to death! Why isn't he speaking? Wife..."
Are you here as a guest at our home?
Cheng Silang walked out of the inner courtyard in one breath, his whole body still burning with fire, until he sat down at the desk and drank a bowl of brewed tea in one gulp, only then did he feel slightly calm.
"Si Lang, where have you been?" someone asked as they walked in. Before they could finish speaking, they saw Si Lang's appearance and let out a sound of surprise, "What's wrong with you? Why is your face so red?"
"I just saw a beauty at home," said Cheng Si Lang murmuringly.
Someone laughed haha.
"It's strange if you can't see beauties at home." He said with a smile, sitting down beside me, "The sisters in our family, dare you say they're not beauties?"
Cheng Silang came back to his senses and looked clearly at the person sitting there.
"Third Brother." He hastily bowed and said.
"Are you stunned?" Cheng Sanlang laughed and said, "The sisters are not here, you don't have to pretend anymore."
Cheng Si Lang shook his head, wanting to say something, but suddenly didn't want to say it.
What a beautiful woman, if I could be the only one who sees her, what a lucky thing that would be.
"Third brother, you're looking for me with something on your mind?" He said with a smile, changing the subject.
"I just heard someone say that the third daughter of the Dong family is going to the poetry gathering at Mo Shou Ge, so I came to invite you to go together. I know you love to see this beauty." Cheng Sanlang said with a smile, as he took Cheng Silang's hand and walked out.
Cheng Silang, however, felt somewhat disheartened and didn't want to take another step.
In the past, Dong's wife was indeed a unique beauty in his eyes, but after seeing that woman just now, what other beauties are there in this world?
"Thanks, Third Brother," he said, "I don't really feel like going today."
Cheng Sanlang was surprised. Cheng Silang had always been infatuated with Dong Sanniang, who was both talented and beautiful. How could he say such unpleasant words?
"Really saw a beauty?" he asked strangely. After coming out, he inquired around and found out that Cheng Si Lang had just gone to the Lotus Pond where his sisters were.
"The sixth and seventh daughters-in-law are quarreling again because the seventh daughter-in-law was called ugly by the sixth one." The young servant said with a smile, having overheard the news.
The sixth daughter and seventh daughter would have a big fight every three days and a small one every two days. The family members were all used to it.
Cheng Sanlang burst out laughing.
"So that's it! I was scared by the quarrel of beautiful people, no wonder I was stunned!" He said with a sigh of relief, "I thought I really saw some beauty being seduced away!"
Ban Jin supported Cheng Jiaoniang as they walked down the mountain, placing the fishing rod casually on the edge of the rock. The fishing rod could no longer be called a fishing rod, but only a rod, because there was no fishhook at all.
"Daughter, who is that man?" asked Ban Qin again.
One side took over the power of the gourd and put it on Cheng Jiaoniang's head.
From the mountain rocks to the entrance of the courtyard, although the distance is not far, but that section of road's sunlight was also somewhat unbearable for Roujiamo.
She asked like this, as if she had never thought that she was the one who saw it with her mother-in-law, and she was the one who entered the house with her mother-in-law. Even counting back, after returning to the Cheng family home, she left the door more times than her mother-in-law.
In her eyes and heart, it seems like there's nothing a daughter-in-law doesn't know in this world.
And her daughter did not disappoint her.
"He came from that direction," said Cheng Jiaoniang, slowly raising her hand to point in a certain direction. "He's fifteen or sixteen years old, wearing casual clothes at home, so he's not an outsider. He looks relaxed and carefree, not like a servant boy. There is no son of this age on Father's side, so it must be the young master from the other family."
He nodded slightly, still looking dazed.
"You know so much, young lady." She said with a smile.
Jiang Nang looked at her and pursed her lips.
"You." She raised her hand and poked the forehead of Banxia with some clumsiness, "Think about it here, you can also know."
Celery is smiling.
"There's someone who wants me, so I don't have to want," she said.
"Can I think for you all your life?" said Cheng Jiaoniang.
"Girl, Half Cabbage will follow you for a lifetime, you can't abandon Half Cabbage." Half Cabbage shouted.
They had already stepped into the courtyard while talking.
A fourteen or fifteen-year-old little girl was sitting on the threshold of the courtyard, playing with pebbles, and snorted when she heard this.
"With this foolish appearance, no one else wants her. Let the fool follow the fool and be an old maid for life!" she said, without hiding her fear of being overheard.
"You're the fool!" Ban Jin retorted, "My wife is the smartest person in the world!"
"Smart people, Zhao Dainiang is absent today and didn't come. I was watching the door and forgot to get rice and dishes, you think of a way to eat by yourselves." The little girl said, after finishing she threw down the stone and ran away quickly.
Half of the celery cried out twice without result.
"My dear daughter, this is too much! Let's go and tell your father." she said.
"There's no need to tell," said Cheng Jiaoniang as she walked into the house, "because if we know and don't ask, going to report would be humiliating ourselves."
Half understanding and half not, followed along.
"Well, what can you do?" she asked, "Nothing can be done about it?"
"This is it," said Jingniang, "it's hard to say for sure."
Huh? What does it mean?
He didn't understand even more, but as long as his wife understood, it was fine. She just didn't think about it anymore and thought about what she should be thinking about instead.
"Girl, what do you want to eat tonight? We also have wheat." She said, counting on her fingers.
