Chapter 40: What a Pity

Chapter 40 is really a pity

I had been looking forward to meeting Mo Qianxun, and the abbot's words were not taken to heart until many years later when I deeply understood that this master was truly ingenious.

I told Fang Zhang and Lü Shi that I had heard this temple was exceptionally beautiful and I wanted to go see it for myself.

Lü arranged for Zheng Niang, a servant girl by her side, to follow me. I thought it was just to appreciate the scenery, but having one more person would be less elegant. The abbot also agreed, and Lü had to give up.

This temple is called Lingyun Temple, and it's indeed a perfect match for its name after walking all the way here.

I asked a little novice monk who was sweeping the floor, and he said that the letter-reading stall was located at the west gate of the common people's entrance. The little monk looked at me with a hint of profundity, and after I walked away, he whispered behind my back: "Another female donor infatuated with Master Yi, sinful, sinful!"

At these words, I couldn't help but blush bright red. Fortunately, there were countless incense guests in the temple, and he probably didn't know who I was. I had to escape and leave, following the path that the little monk had specified for me to head west.

At the entrance, there were three to five old men holding paper books waiting in line. In front of the stall, a young man was standing with his back to me, carefully reading something to an elderly woman in her sixties sitting in front of him.

I looked around, feeling both hopeful and nervous, and unconsciously walked in front of him, softly calling out, "Chihiro."

That figure lightly turned around, I just buried my face, the feeling like a fire burning made me dare not lift my head. I looked at my toes, with my head down, and saw him seemingly getting up in front of me, he seemed to be sizing up my clothes, after a while he said: "Madam, are you looking for Brother Qianxun?"

The unfamiliar voice forced me to look up, but the man above was not Yī Qiān Xún, but a man who was about the same height and size as Yī Qiān Xún, yet lacked his elegance and warmth.

He motioned me to step aside, and I hastily asked him: "Where's Yī Qiān Xún? Isn't he supposed to come to the temple on the 15th of every month to read letters? Why are you here?"

The man saw my expression and said nonchalantly, "Ma'am, today Qianxiu's brother has something to attend to, so I'm here in his place. You're already the twelfth person to come ask about this."

My face turned even redder with embarrassment, I moved my lips a few times, and finally said disappointedly: "What a pity."
