I re read the quest again and pondered on how to tackle it.
Let’s start brainstorming. I took out a pen and a notebook from my inventory and began putting down my ideas on paper.
First option: starting a booth, and letting only one guild in the country get exclusive access to my [Merchant of dreams shop].
Second option: making the leaders of both guilds start a guild war.
Perhaps I could use both ideas. Promising exclusive rights to get your wishes fulfilled to only one guild would be a good way to start a war encompassing all the top guilds in the country.
However, if I were to personally make the offer, it would potentially make me the target of public outrage and group reprisals. I wasn’t willing to take the risk.
To avoid this, my reputation must stay clean. I would need to pose as a victim, while orchestrating the destruction of the guilds from behind the scenes.
For this plan to work, I’d need a scapegoat. Someone who could act as the villain in my story. A poor sod who would pretend to coerce me into slavery, and force me to use my abilities to spark the guild war to complete his own (inexistant) agenda.
This strategy was absolutely perfect. It could prevent me from being suspected, while allowing me to complete the quest. After all how could a victim be the mastermind behind a war? This wouldn’t make any sense right?
My heart raced just thinking about it. The sheer thrill of watching them tear each other apart while looking like a helpless victim in their eyes was intoxicating. I could almost taste the chaos, feel the tension as I watched the show in plain sight, untouchable despite being the mastermind. It was sick, it was beautiful, and I couldn’t wait to make it happen.
Yes I know, I was a bit twisted in the head, but that’s precisely the reason why I was chosen as a would be [Demon King]. They wanted someone who cooked up sinister plans and brought forth chaos and destruction anywhere he went.
Perhaps the system should give me the class [God of Trickery] instead of [Demon King], this would suit me better. Behold Loki, your disciple is walking in your steps!
Jokes aside, I still needed to find a way to trick someone into doing my bidding, making him take the blame while I get away from the whole mess scot-free.
I could find someone who’d do it voluntarily, by hiring him while ensuring his safety, anonymity, and a big fortune.
This would be the safest option, but for some reason it left a bad taste in my mouth. Hiring an actor didn’t sit well with me.
Who was I? As the future demon king I could do whatever the fuck I wanted. I didn’t need to play the good samaritan. My heart bled at the idea of hiring an actor. I wanted to thoroughly destroy the poor guy who would play the villain. Don’t ask me why. It was just one of my quirks.
Ding!
Oh oh. Welcome back little thing. Did you miss me? I thought you swore to never talk to me again.
Yes yes, I missed you too little prick. By the way do you want to take part in the plan? I will gladly offer you the role of the villain.
Yes I knew you would love the idea. You are the best.
You know me well little thing, I am insane. By the way, talking to you is my most entertaining pastime.
Ah ah. Messing with this silly thing was really fun. I could never get enough of it.
Alright, the little interlude apart, I still needed to find a way to trick someone into playing the role of the villain.
Too bad I didn’t unlock the [Master/Servant oath] yet. It would have come in handy, I wouldn’t have’d to rack my brains to find a solution.
Some time passed and I received a divine revelation.
Eureka. I have found THE answer.
Hehehehehe. ? Hiring ? an actor might not be so bad after all. A gullible one would be goddamn perfect.
Having such a brilliant mind should be a crime considering what I was about to do.
I walked out of the hotel, stepping into the beautiful roads of Bordeaux, my destination: the nearest church.
Upon arriving at the temple, I was welcomed by a sexy blond nun with big breast and generous forms under her black and white tunic. She smiled at me good heartedly. ? Welcome to the house of the sun god, child. What bring you here today? ?
I used the [Art of Deception] again.
? Hello big sister. God has led this humble servant to its house to impart his will to the world. ?
The woman looked at me incredulously. ? Are you alright little boy? Did you hit your head somewhere? Do you want big sis to call a healer for you? ?
As expected, she didn’t believe me right away.
? I am saying the truth big sister. I am god’s envoy. You can look at my statut screen if you don’t trust me.?
Ding!
She frowned, relaxing slightly after using her magic on me.
? Forgive me for doubting you Djinn, I didn’t think such a noble creature would grace our temple with its presence. ?
? It’s alright. I don’t mind, but god asked me to keep this task as confidential as possible. Big sis, I don’t want to sin, can you promise on god’s name that you will keep everything I am about to tell you a secret? ?
She scowled. ? Swearing on god’s name is taboo Djinn, I can lose my divine power and become a sinner damned for all eternity if I break such an oath. ?
I paled. ? I am truly sorry sister. I… I didn’t know. But this put me in an awkward position… Since it’s not possible I will go to another church to see if someone can help me with god’s mission. ? I bowed and turned away, walking toward the door without looking back.
When I was about to step out of the temple front portal, a hand touched my shoulder and a voice sounded behind me.
? Wait a second Djinn. I never said I wouldn’t hear you out. ?
Great. I won my bet. This trick always worked. Now I had the upper hand in our negotiation.
I stopped and looked at her with a slightly scared expression. ? What are you doing big sis? Didn’t you just say it was impossible? Why are you stopping me now? ?
She flinched and put her hand away like I’d burned her. ? Don’t misunderstand Djinn. I don’t have bad intentions. I just want to hear what you have to say. ?
With this, our position were reversed.
? Really? Are you sure? ? I said while taking a step back, making sure she didn’t have any time to think things through.
? Yes I am sure. Don’t worry Djinn I don’t mean any harm. ?
? Alright I trust you big sis. ? I said while relaxing slightly.
She relaxed as well and said with a warm smile, ? Good. Let’s go to another place. I will hear what you have to say there. ?
I didn’t move, staring at her in silence.
? What are you doing? Come this way please. ?
I looked at her warily again. ? I am sorry sis, I can’t go with you unless you swear the oath. ?
She swore under her breath, and quickly hid her mouth behind her hand, mouthing a ? god forgives. ?
Good. This was the kind of opportunity I was waiting for to destabilize her further.
I started trembling and put both of my hands in front of my face in a protective gesture. ? Don’t hit me please. I will follow you anywhere sis. I-I… promise I will be a good kid. Don’t hit me please. ?
She froze and blinked confusedly. After a few seconds, she regained her bearings and tried to confort me. ? Sorry kid… I shouldn’t have said that. I am not angry at you. Don’t cry please. I won’t hit you. ?
I cried like there was no tomorrow, trembling like a terrified kid.
When I started wimping sorrowfully, she looked around us with a panicked expression.
The passerby walking by the entrance of the temple watched her weirdly.
A kind grandma went out of her way to stand up for me, berating her sternly. ? What are you doing to such a small kid? Apologize to him before I report you to the authorities. ?
She winced, nodding helplessly, ? Sorry kid. Stop crying please. I won’t hurt you. ?
The grandma umphed coldly, ? don’t let me see you do that kind of thing again, girl. I won’t be as lenient next time. ?
She departed after making sure the sexy nun apologized profusely and promised she wouldn’t hurt me.
When the nun noticed I was still crying bitterly, she flinched. ? Look kid, I will swear anything you want. Don’t cry anymore okay? ?
Game over girl.
I hiccuped and continued to shed crocodile tears. ? Mom it hurts, don’t hit me anymore. I will be a good kid. I promise. ?
She sighted helplessly and started taking an oath. ? I swear upon the sun god, I will do anything you want and I won’t reveal what you are about to tell me. ?
As soon as the words escaped her lips, a golden thread of light coiled around her right hand like a snake. It glowed, tightening its grip around her wrist to seal the vow directly on her skin. After a few seconds, the thread of light disappeared, leaving behind the golden tattoo of a dragon representing the sun’s god oath.
Ding!
Hehehe. She was done for. This was so damn satisfying.
You are right little thing, I am trash and proud to be.
I love you too, little prick.
