It was a cool and collected m, the weather was good and you’d be i to enjoy it. These were the thoughts that the doctor had affirmed to himself. He was a sorrowful man, he had, frankly, too much to think about. Which is why the man had always found himself enjoying his m coffee on the roof of his Morally degrading workpce. To ease his nerves of the fact that he was morally two faced. He sipped his coffee to drink the little top yer that had cooled down enough not to burn a hole through his throat. He was drawn bato his thoughts as the caffeine seeped into his nerves and the warmth of the solution dispersed into his belly. He was plexed and torn by how he was so readily aware of the fact that his work and his true thoughts were por opposites. But he didn’t know what to do about it. The man had always tried his best to process his feeling. But it was frankly impossible, he needed a new perspective. He knew he had been unknowingly ditioned into the two faced man he was now in that very moment. But due to his inability to express and process it. He relutly became quiet and sought tet it, as it only tired him more. That silence was the way most of his peers got through it he thought.
When taking another sip of his coffee and peering out into the vasthat the capital had created. His co-worker/apprentice opehe door to the roof as well.
“Hello doctor, brrr… up her as usual huh”
The dretfully aowledged the presence of his young adult co-worker who would be a little youhan his own daughter.
“Hello to you too missy, just enjoying my coffee as always thank you”
She, the young and aspiring nurse in training stood beside him and looked out into the pre-built city that the capital had created expeg a rge burdensome of people to house. She started a versation sensing the silend awkwardhe doctor had made for her to fix.
“impressive don’t you think, looks exactly like the ones back at home. Haha I guess that’s standardisation though”
The doctor who had been up here for tless m coffees had already realised, and had o missy in firmation. But he also cursed that very same impressivehat had made this building into what it was.
“Yes it certainly is”
…
Both aowledge each other and just decided to enjoy the silence of the wind and rising sun. As the doctor and missy were about to take a sip of their respective cups. Missy speaks up.
“Why do you have your coffees up here doctor? It’s quite lonely isn’t it”
The doctor who had been internalising this very moment had been waiting for this day. He looked out into the world than into his hands and soured as he realised what he has doo himself. He had begged for a way to step forward out of his aowledgment of his own two faess. Then he realised he had already accepted it. He saw wrinkles on his hands that only form from old age. as such realised he couldn’t burden his younger rades. He had grown old and he couldn’t burden others. No, it was more that no one would care. But that isn’t to say he didn’t think that missy wouldn’t, it’s just that in the grand scheme of things it was too te to realise this. He was old now. But he knew if he didn’t do it now he may never have the ce again, he less he tried.
“ I… ahh… ahem”
Bst! the doctor said inwardly. He couldn’t do it… the doctor who desperately wao be him within himself ahe liween his appareal divide.
Unfortunately for him, His duty was holding him back. he couldn’t just blurt out what the gover was doing. T individuals to seek out battle mages. It was a wicked act but a necessary one sidering… He thought of himself as a det fellow his wife said the same. Gods forbid she knew what he was doing though. He just ime to ascertain if it was worth knowing or not…
“…How’s Fyodor missy?”
Luckily for the doissy khat the simple question she had just made had a lot more meaning than initially expected. (Thank women’s intuition!!) She realised this and decided to help the old man who takes care of her even though he belittles her a little too much. she sought to ease this man a little. She thought that if she gave this man enough time to think how to express himself, and that if she gave this man some personal details about herself then he might feel more fortable to open up.
“ yes, well I do admit that it is annoying having to take the train and stay here for my whole work week and it’s putting a bit of strain on Fyodor since he loves me so much haha, but yeah… (soaks up the wind) umm this might sound gross but we’ve been trying for a baby every time I e bae. He makes the bed and we exge how our woes and we secretly send messages on our work puters to keep in touch. Haha I remember him and the stress in his voice telling me how he farted really loudly at work and everyone gave him death stares. Haha what a loser, I just love him so much…”
These wave soce to the doctor and soothed his soul… but secretly in the dark ers of his brain he loathed the words she said. He had much rather wanted her to say that Fyodor was dead or had turo stone so he could then just tell her how his thoughts and duty were tearing him apart. But he had enough self respect to respect others, and immediately shut those thoughts down.
There was no way he could willingly send this precious future mother to her mrave if she ever came to know what she was helping create. As such he sacrificed himself and the possibility he could ever bee single faced. He wished for another ce but as he looked down into his hands. He khese wrinkles were his sentence. If only he thought. What if…I could live forever.
The doctor decides to retort back
“Preposterous to say that it’s ‘gross’ I’m a doctor and old enough to be your father… strangely I’m proud and happy for you missy. I’m sure you will bee a great mother. Especially with Fyodor to support you.”
The doctor had pced a mask over his face to guise his true feelings, missy noticed this and realise she had failed him. she was happy and utterly fttered from those words from one of the persons she wants to emute the most. But that guise… That burden that’s stu his throat must be awfully heavy she thought in her brain and she dispyed this on her face too. The doctor decided to take the initiative to leave before the words and cry for help crawl out of his mouth to attack this emerging mother.
Missy follows him and they start their work for the day.
