Ch16: Dangerous bet _ Part 2

The dice were shaken in the cube and with a not-so-loud sound, were landed on the table.

Every player took a look at their dice while covering them.

For Mike, 2 sixes, 1 one, and two threes.

The first one was the one on his right.

  "2 fives" Said the 'trouble-maker'

All of them were forced to play the same amount of the bet.

"4 fives" Said the man in debt.

Anyone would feel the doubts in his voice, it was like the man was a bad gambler.

"Liar" Bull was relaxed like he was sure of his victory.

  Everybody showed their dice.

Mike had none fives, the troublemaker had one, the other had two, and Bull had none.

The first round was quick, and Mike could not even play the round.

They had enough chips for 3 consecutive bets.

Since Bull won the first round, he got the chips from the loser, not from all of them.

From Mike's point of view, the man in front of him, the gambling addict, was to be the first loser here.

And giving the one on the left the most chances to bet.

Maybe they planned it that way; that may be the reason Bull was sitting to his left.

Dice shaking again, the one in front turns.

  "3 fours"

  "4 fours"

  Mike's turn now.

He had two fours, the possibility was high, but he had to show doubts, so he took a moment.

"5... fours" It was better to play safe for now.

  "6 fours" said troublemaker,

He was sure, or at least showed security.

The one in front was doubting while looking at the dice.

  "7 fours"

"Liar" Bull had no doubt when saying so.

  Everybody showed the dice.

5 fours in total, another win for Bull, another loss for the gambling addict.

Next round, the one in front again.

  "4 ones"

  "..." this time Bull doubted.

  "5 ones"

  Mike had no dice ones.

He looked at the guy to his right.

"I have no dice one" He said, expecting the question.

Mike had to play safe, but if the man was telling a lie, it would be his loss.

"Better show their true colors before the risky gambling, then"

He looked at the one in front.

The man didn't want to answer.

  "Liar"

This time, there were only four, the guy at his right told the truth.

The count of current bets remaining before betting their life was now:

  1 for the gambling addict,

  3 for the trouble-maker,

  4 for Mike,

  4 for Bull.

  The game advanced slowly.

Once they aimed the gun at their head, they could not bet the money again even if winning a round after, only their lives.

The first one was the gambling addict.

It was funny for Mike, how the man was so lucky, he felt the bullet in the weapon using his power.

*CLICK* no bullet was fired this time.

The bullet was to be fired at the 5th attempt.

That man had a lot of luck.

  Even more luck than Mike.

But he was a bad gambler.

And Mike had a special ability.

So, the tables were a little fair.

But with Bull now having 5 bets before using the revolver, it was still somehow hard, that man was getting "lives" from the gambling addict.

But now, he had no more ways to get chances,

Once the one in front of Mike reaches the 5th attempt, Bull could then try to get lives from troublemaker.

Troublemaker had still 3 chances before using the gun.

After two more rounds, the boss walked closer to the table and took a look before they could start the next round.

At that moment, the bets were still the same, only the gambling addict in front of Mike had lost, once against Bull again, and once against the trouble-maker.

"Let's accelerate bets a little bit" He said.

As the boss made the order, the dealer came to the table, quickly took one bet chance for every player, and retired.

Now Bull had chips for 4 chances,

  Troublemaker for 2,

  And Mike for 3 chances.

Only the gambling addict got nothing out of it since he already had no more chips.

That man in front of Mike was a joke.

People should be aware of the consequences of their actions as grown adults.

Even if Mike had the authority to arrest everybody there, he still felt no need to help the man in front of him.

Someone not aware of the consequences was not worth the effort.

  Was he being too cold-blooded?

He thought so, but he had other things to worry about right now.

So, after discarding the thought, he centered on the table again.

Once the gambling addict dies, the real problem falls upon the real gamblers.

Bull was too decisive; he played a lot with dice before.

As for troublemaker, he was just very poker-faced.

The few interactions made him look like an honest guy when gambling.

  But still hard to read.

"4 fours" Said the almost-dead guy.

"6 fours, I'm sure of it, I have a lot of them, you trust me?" Said Bull while looking at Mike.

Lost in thought he suddenly noticed something.

"I am an idiot, how did I not get it before?" He relaxed on the chair and without looking at his own dice... "Liar"

  Everybody got their dice shown.

  2 from Troublemaker.

  2 from the addict.

  3 from Bull.

  A total of 6 fours,

But Mike never looked at his own dice.

He should show it right now, but instead of it...

"Boss, you know I am an ability user, shouldn't be unfair if we don't know if someone is using supernatural abilities? I mean, I could not be the only one"

Mike with no worries, gave the chips away.

He knew he lost the round.

But still decided to relax without worries.

And understood something while looking at the boss' reaction.

The boss showed no change in his face, it was mostly like he was thinking about it.

But having gambled with him just before, he understood that the man was hard to read.

"Are you confident?" Asked the boss.

"Confident in what? In winning? Weird but..." He could not understand the question.

Was he asking if he was confident in winning without his ability?

"I see no problem...?" that was his answer.

The boss nodded to one of his men.

They soon got some devices in the room.

  One was an antiPhySEC wristband.

The other was a device to receive lectures from PhySEC moves.

To explain it simply, it was to detect users using their abilities.

The one using the wristband was Mike, but everyone was now monitored by the other device.

Mike confirmed if the device was working just before using the wristband.

Indeed, it could detect his ability usage only when not in the scanning mode.

By then, he was sure of something.

More after playing a few more rounds like that.

  Bull was an ability user.

From that point on, he had a harder time dealing with Mike.

But Bull was still a veteran gambler, so it was still a balance between the two.

And just finishing the next round...

*BANG* the last attempt for the addict.

Gambling can be a serious problem; some unlucky people should be aware of it.

"May your soul rest in peace"

The workers cleaned the blood in just barely a moment.

And while they were taking the corpse away, the game kept going on.

Ever since the devices were on, Bull's face was more serious than ever before.

It was clear he was a telekinesis user.

Now not able to move the dice the way he wanted, he was playing seriously.

As for Troublemaker, since hearing the revolver firing and getting surprised by the sound, and even before they took one chip chance from them again, he was getting nervous,

But still kept a serious face.

Now it was time to show the real game running in the table.

With the wristband on Mike, the boss thought he wouldn't escape the game whichever variant he had.

And with the device on, Mike was sure he could win against Bull.

As for the Troublemaker, all he could do was sweat from being nervous.

Net round, Bull wins, trouble-maker loses.

  Net one,

  "4 threes" said trouble-maker.

That was a very odd betting, he always was playing safe.

This time, Mike decided to not look at his dice directly.

He just waited for Bull to decide himself.

"..." But it took some time for him to decide.

Then after a moment, he finally spoke, leaving Mike with a good chance.

  "5 threes"

"You know what a lie is?" Asked Mike.

Bull was doubtful about Mike's words.

"Wanting to give a lesson to a professional?"

Bull was confident in his words, but somehow, he still felt something wrong.

Mike looked at the other guy.

"Good work, sadly... I will win this game, so sorry in advance"

Raising his fist, pointing his finger at Bull, and with confidence, he told the magic word to finish the round.

  "Liar"

  Then, they revealed the dice.

  Mike, zero threes.

  Trouble-maker, zero threes.

  Bull, 3 threes.

"The professional falling into the trap of the newbie?" Those were the words from Mike.
