Chapter 119: The Troublesome Wave

Hazel’s Astral Eye darted around the swarm, trying to spot every Web Weaver she could find. Several of them stood in place, positioned almost at the very end of the swarm or in the middle of it. If it weren’t for the white web design plastered on their back, she wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference between a Weaver and an Infant. The only noticeable difference other than that would be their size, but Hazel wouldn’t have been able to notice it at first glance.

As she spotted a web weaver, Hazel would conjure a Mana Bolt while using Telekinesis to hurl it at the target, practically sniping the eight-legged monster in a single shot. Thanks to her Mana Bolt spell being at Rank 9, it was easy for her to dispatch the Web Weavers in one strike.

Just as she was about to shoot another one, a strand of thick web shot toward Hazel. She hastily conjured her Mana shield, watching the transparent blue dome materialize around her in an instant. The web made contact with the shield, clinging to it like its life depended on it. However, when the Mana shield disappeared, the thick web strand dropped to the floor before sliding off the bridge altogether.

Hazel scanned the swarm in search of the web-weaver bastard that attempted to ensnare her in its web. Over to the far right, somewhere in the middle of the spider horde, Hazel found her culprit. Just in time to witness the thing whirl around to reveal its behind, directing it in her direction.

Instincts took hold of Hazel as she raised her head before hurling several mana bolts at the Web Weaver. The bolts tore through the arachnid monstrosity, leaving it in pieces after the barrage attack was done.

“This is taking too long...” Hazel grumbled before turning to a couple of the mages near her. “Hey, I want some of you guys to help me target the Web Weavers that are among the swarm! They’ll have a white web design on their bodies and are slightly larger than their infant siblings. Come on!”

The players didn’t argue and simply followed along, rushing to the edge of the bridge and raising their staves and wands at the swarm.

“Be careful of their webs,” Hazel hastily warned them. “Once you get ensnared by it, it’ll be difficult to get the stuff off you. And we might not be able to get it off in time before they drag you off the bridge.”

Right after saying this, Hazel and the other players heard screaming over to their right. Turning toward the source of the commotion, they then witnessed one of the players near them suddenly get caught in one of the Web Weaver’s webs, entrapping their entire body.

A couple of other players attempted to break him out, but none of their spells or weapons could cut through the webbing that ensnared him. Before they could try anything else, the caught Player was instantly dragged off the bridge as the other players tried to keep him from getting pulled away, inevitably failing nonetheless.

Hazel held back the urge to stare at the player who was pulled by one of them, doing her best to also block out the noise of his pained scream as he fell into the spider swarm before likely getting ripped to pieces by the infants that saw him as a snack to chow down on.

The other players, however, witnessed the horror unfold in its entirety, which was evident from the pale and terrified expressions on their faces. As much as Hazel wanted to console them over the loss of one of their own, they had bigger issues at the moment.

“Focus on the Web Weavers now, before more of us get caught by those things!”

The players quickly changed gears after hearing Hazel give them their orders. Pulling their attention away from their deceased comrade, all of them then focused on the Web Weavers among the swarm. A moment later, they proceeded to launch a flurry of spells and arrows, clearly spotting their targets and eliminating them as soon as possible.

However, more and more web bridges were being constructed by the pesky monsters, making it difficult for the players to hurl their spells down on the swarm because they were in the way. It didn’t help that none of their projectiles were causing significant damage to the web bridges to take them down.

Taking her eyes off the web bridges for a moment, Hazel glanced over at the Sentinel, who was currently nearing the bridge as they spoke. If Hazel held this off any longer, then her group would be screwed.

“Dammit...” She grumbled, clenching her hands. “Looks like I've got no other choice.”

Making this declaration, Hazel raised her hand and conjured up the Entropy sickle. Keeping it hovering in the air with the help of Telekinesis, she then proceeded to hurl the sickle at the web bridges. Despite all the other spells doing little to no damage to them, Hazel’s spell was far more effective and easily cut through the webbing. Upon being severed, the two halves of the webs collapsed while slowly turning to dust.

Once all of the bridges were gone, the swarm could be seen once again by the players, allowing them to continue their barrage attack without having their view obstructed. Since the swarm wasn’t hidden by the web bridges, the spiders were killed off much more easily than before. In the end, Hazel clearly made the right call in destroying the web bridges.

However, now she had bigger issues, that being the Sentinel. Looking away from the swarm for a brief moment, Hazel realized that the Sentinel was far too close to the bridge now. To the point where it only needed to take a couple more steps to quite literally step on the bridge they were on.

Seeing the sentinel, Hazel quickly changed gears and focused all of her attention on the giant eight-legged monster. The sentinel let out a loud screech, causing Hazel and the other players to briefly cover their ears in response, desperate to block out the noise.

“Tch...so loud...” Hazel growled before summoning her cursed spears. Then, with a flick of her wrist, she hurled all of them at the Sentinel, accelerating them with the assistance of Telekinesis.

The cursed spears pierced the giant spider’s body, causing it to let out a pained screech while stumbling backward. All the while, Hazel’s curse damage from her spell started to slowly affect the monster as purple veins began to spider web across the wounds where her spears were lodged in its body.

Despite her curse coursing through its body, the sentinel remained standing before repositioning itself to continue its march toward the bridge. Hazel wasn’t surprised by the monster's resilience, since it was level 32 according to its description. Still, that didn’t mean she was going to stop here and let it get to the interstate bridge.

Vigorously waving her hand, Hazel proceeded to conjure some curse bombs, making them as big as possible. With the help of Telekinesis to keep them in the air, she then threw the bombs at the sentinel, having them stick to its body from its head, torso, and legs. She specifically planted most of her curse bombs on the legs because once the bombs explode, the legs should be damaged enough to where the sentinel would collapse on the ground, allowing Hazel to buy more time for her cooldown to finish.

Despite being unable to pull up a cooldown, Hazel could tell that she still had around a couple dozen seconds or so before she could use Entropy Sickle again.

Watching the bombs plant themselves on the Sentinel, Hazel raised her head before snapping her fingers immediately after. The sentinel’s body lit up as explosions engulfed its entire body. The monster screeched in pain while falling to the ground, causing a minor tremor in the process.

As the dust settled, revealing the fallen sentinel, Hazel bore witness to the severe damage she inflicted on the monster. Multiple craters formed all over its body along with purple cracks coursing through its wound, similar to the curse spears.

Unlike before, when it was struck by the spears, the sentinel was unable to pull itself off the ground to stand back up. Hazel couldn’t help but gawk at the sight, completely surprised by just how effective her curse bombs were.

“Looks like I didn’t need to use Entropy Sickle after all,” Hazel mumbled before her brows arched. “Then again...the cooldown seems to be done so...it can’t hurt, right?”

Not wasting another moment, Hazel hastily conjured another Entropy Sickle. It hovered above her palm for a few moments, radiating a menacing and foreboding aura. A moment later, she swung her arm toward the sentinel, causing the sickle to get launched in its direction.

The sentinel could do nothing as it watched the entropy sickle barrel toward it. With relative ease, the spell tore through its body before spreading its entropy essence across its entire being, deconstructing its vessel down to a molecular level. The sentinel slowly decayed, leaving not even dust or ash in its wake.

And just like that, the sentinel was gone. Erased from existence as if it were never there, to begin with. Hazel stared at the spot where the monster disappeared before her eyes were drawn back to the rest of the swarm followed by the grunts and screams of the players around her.

Although she took down the Sentinel, the wave was far from over. So, she couldn’t rest until she took down all of the spiders within the swarm. And she had no plans to. She wasn’t going to stop until all of the eight-legged bastards were finally dealt with.
