Chapter 20 - Thalia, the Dancing Swan

Large 7ft tall arachnids with green neon stripes and widow pattern on their abdomen, descended from above. Fear almost froze Kat in place, due to spiders being one of her greatest fears, had it not been for Barry’s words of encouragement.

Barry’s planned on drawing aggro from the spiders and deal enough damage so that Kat can deal the last couple of hits on them to get more experience points for the kill. The way it worked was that the one who killed something would gain bonus points, but anyone else who contributed would get a shared amount.

There were three giant spiders that dropped to greet them, with one of them approaching faster than it’s kin at the two with a desire to silk them up for dinner later.

“I'll wither them down enough for you to finish them, so seize the opportunity when I give it.” Barry advised, planning on cutting down their legs first. He would know when the creature's HP was close to dropping to 0 with the aid of his eyes that could see his foes HP, Stamina, and special resource bar.

“Okay, I'll be ready.” Kat replied with a firm tone, taking this chance to get stronger more seriously.

He felt another cold shiver down his spine as he watched the three spiders approached them, another whisper from the same woman as before could be heard through his ear. ‘What poor stance you have…’

The mysterious woman’s comment made him feel slightly irritated, causing him to respond back with annoyance. ‘Who are you!?’ The woman did not respond back to his question, causing him to become pissed off even more. ‘Yeah, that’s right, stay quiet!’

The hasty spider spit fired neon green bullets out of its mouth at the two. Kat raised her damaged shield to block the shots, while Barry dashed around, evading them all as he closed the gap between them.

Upon reaching the spider halfway, he leaped toward its right legs, slashing at its joints and cutting them deep but not enough to amputate it. He would then hop backwards, performing a rebound with his double-jump to completely amputate its right legs, causing it to collapse on one side.

Its HP was near 40%, so he lunged at it one more time, cutting off its other front legs so that Kat could have an easier time to kill it without being retaliated. “Slay it, I’ll set up the rest.” He ordered Kat before moving on to the other two that just joined in.

Kat wasted no time to move in and execute the struggling spider, it could not get back up with only one side of its legs intact. She remained at its vulnerable side and began bashing it with her mace against its mid-section, listening to it make disturbing cries of pain. Eventually, the creature would stop squirming and succumb to her attacks. She had squished the bug to death.

Looking in the direction of Barry, she saw that he was about done cutting one spider down to size for her, while also dodging the other one's attack to stab him with its appendages. She quickly got into her position to kill one, taking immediate action once she saw the injured one fall.

Once again, Kat struck its blind spot till it died, she heard the fall of the other spider and looked in its direction. Barry stood on top of it's body, nudging at the floundering arachnids. “You know what to do.” He urged her.

She nodded and rushed up to collect her next victim, finishing the job and obtaining a level up, Kat smiled at the sight of the notification informing her. “I-I leveled up! Thank you, Barry.”

Barry had also received a level up as well, reaching level 19 since he was already close to filling the experience bar already.

From above, Barry saw a neon green droplet land in between them, the moment he looked up was when his instincts took over and leapt towards Kat. Carrying her by surprise in his arms and creating some space as a much bigger spider landed where they were. “We have more company, so don’t thank me yet.”

Setting her down, Kat looked back to see their new foe. It definitely was bigger than the others that attack them, this one had to have been the mother of the three, green neon mushrooms and other fungus were formed around it’s body, along with the same green stripe patterns. Green ooze dripped from its fangs, the eyes of the monster splitting between Kat and Barry.

“So the mother decides to step in after witnessing her children get slaughtered, just means more experience points to level up wouldn’t you say?” He asked Kat, preparing to charge at it.

“Y-Yeah…more fun, right?” Kat replied, trying to lighten up the mood with her joke.

“Very.” Barry responded in a cold tone, activating his skill, ‘King’s Commanding Presence’, boosting both of their physical prowess, which made Kat feel surprisingly stronger. Without hesitation, he was the first to make his move and bolted towards the mother, targeting its legs as usual.

The mama spider reacted in time to jump, avoiding the swing of his blade, and began raining down shots of cobwebs to ensnare him. He, too, will jump up to chase after it, slicing through the cobwebs before they made contact.

He would attempt another strike, but then noticed its body shaking up before a green spore cloud was unleashed from the fungus that covered it. Barry used his double jump to back away, not wanting to get caught in it and possibly become debuffed. “A nasty defense mechanism it has there, this will be a bit challenging, hmm…”

Kat saw how tricky the mother was to get close to and wanted to help somehow, rather than waiting on the sidelines to get the last hit in. Deciding to act as bait, she grabbed a couple of pebbles with her shield in hand and charged forward, chucking them at the spider’s eyes to irritate it.

“Kat?” Barry wasn’t expecting her to step in so early, a couple of the rocks that she threw managed to hit its eyes, making the mother focus more on Kat, rather than Barry, and began skittering her way. ‘Acting as bait, huh? Works for me.’

Realizing that she had caught the monsters' attention, Kat froze in place with her shield in front just before it started firing bullets of possible venom at her. Barry took his opportunity by lunging the creature from behind with a mighty swing of his greatsword.

What he didn’t know, was that the mother still had eyes positioned just enough to give itself the awareness of his presence. Another cloud of green spores was triggered by its defense mechanism at the same time that Barry had cleaved two of its back legs, making the mother cry in pain.

His lungs took in some of the green spores, causing him to retract immediately out of the cloud and begin coughing non-stop. “Crap, I-” He was getting ill, feeling the effects of the poison taking hold, his veins stood out more with a lime green color. Barry’s movements were getting sluggish.

Kat saw what had happened as she peeked past her shield, “Barry! The antidotes! Drink one!”

Barry remembered that they were given some from Sherry as part of their supplies and quickly skimmed through his inventory to find one and drank it. His body would start to feel better after a couple of seconds. ‘What a wonder thing these potions are for us.’

The spider was slowly closing in on Kat as it continued to lay down suppressing firing. He had to give himself another chase to confront the monster before it could reach Kat, her shield was already looking badly damaged because of the hits it took from the brute skeleton from the catacombs. “I have to try again, even if it means getting caught in another poisonous cloud.”

He went back in, planning to just act without care for himself. ‘So reckless…’ The mysterious woman whispered.

Barry was annoyed by her comment. ‘What do you want me to do? I don't have any special ranged attacks like fancy fireballs or magic projectiles of that sort!’

‘Don't need any…’ The woman responded, then he felt like something was trying to breach his mind. He slowed, trying to focus on resisting against this unknown force. ‘Do not resist…allow me to demonstrate…’

He did not know who this woman was, but he did sense a mood of calmness in her voice, Barry would do what she said since the giant spider was close to encountering Kat. ‘Fine.’ He stopped resisting against this unknown presence and felt himself becoming possessed by it.

The mysterious spirit took control of him, his eyes shifting from his usual hazel colored eyes into a shimmering sky color. ‘Remember this feeling…’

In taking a smooth and calm breath of air, relaxing the tones of his muscles and getting into a fixed stance with his greatsword outward with the tip of the blade tilted at the monster. He locked his sights on the creature, dousing the rage that Barry had inside and replacing it with inner peace. ‘Grace before savagery…elegance before crudeness…and you will find yourself…’

Kat was now being physically attacked by the spider's legs that were breaking away at her shield. ‘...in a brighter world.’

His arms moved in a flash of two swings in the motion of an x-cross, splicing the air and sending two blades of wind at the spider’s legs that slowly seemed to fade away. Another sway of his greatsword was performed elegantly as a finishing touch, launching another blade of wind horizontally that also disappeared after a moment.

At first, it didn't seem like the wind blades came into contact with the creature, but after a couple of seconds, the results of the spirit woman’s actions were shown.

Kat's shield had shattered completely from the mother spider's last attack, she backed away in an attempt to get away, then saw something incredibly shocking. The giant spider collapsed due to all of its legs being cleaved clean off its joints, but that was the only thing that was cut off, the green fungus that rested on its body was chopped off. It was now nothing more than a sitting duck on the ground without its defense mechanism.

Barry regained control of his body, of which was extremely exhausted from the show of talent that the woman was trying to teach. ‘How did you…what are you? Who are you?’ He was amazed at what the spirit showed him.

‘Remember the feeling…the technique…and you may be able to do the same…let go of your rage…’ The spirit responded, ignoring his question for the time being. He felt the presence of the voice going away, leaving him alone. He wasn’t sure about her last piece of advice, which was suppressing his anger. That was what kept him going through every trial he faced so far.

The mother spider was in a helpless state, it cried out in pain the entire time it laid on the ground.

Kat looked at Barry, she wanted to know how he was able to take down the monster from a distance, it amazed her. “H-How did you do this!?” She then noticed that him in an exhausted state. “You look tired, are you alright?”

He transferred his greatsword back into his inventory, believing that the fight was over. “Yeah, I'll be fine…whatever I did really took a lot out of me.” His hand then pointed at the defenseless monster. “You going to finish it?”

“Oh! Yeah, I'll…squash it. Give me a moment.” Kat hurried to beat the giant spider with her mace, at first she felt disturbed by the act of beating down something so defenseless, but eventually she got used to it. After obtaining her experience points, she was shy away from reaching level 9. “So close.”

As Barry was taking a break to recover, his eyes looked up at where the spiders were lurking and spotted a cluster of slimy neon green looking eggs with black spots dotted around them, attached to the upper side of a wall. “Hey Kat…” He called out, grabbing her attention. “How much exp do you think we can get from breaking all these eggs?”

Kat observed what he was seeing and caught on quickly, but still didn't feel right about the decision. “B-But Barry, they're still just eggs. It'll be like killing babies.”

Barry stood up and stared at her with a serious expression just to mess with her. “Weren't you the one who killed all their siblings and only mother?”

His words rattled Kat, making her cheeks flushed red from embarrassment. “W-What? N-No! That's not entirely true, you told me to kill them all!”

“And yet you still listened because you wanted to get stronger, how cruel of you.” He replied, as he climbed up to reach the eggs, utilizing his double jump while also grabbing hold of the crimps in the wall he found.

“I’m not cruel, I…” Kat was flustered, she didn’t know what else to say to him and just admitted her defeat. She knew that he was messing with her in the end.

Barry grabbed hold of one of the eggs, which were about the size of a small child, and ripped it off its nest with one hand. “Here! Break it!” He then chucked the egg at her.

Kat saw the egg flying at her and nearly panicked, she couldn’t believe that Barry was actually serious. She batted at the egg with her mace, while also shielding herself from the yolk that exploded with a cloak. “Noooo! I can’t believe you're really making me do this!” She would stow away the yucky cloak afterward.

He tossed her one egg after another, Barry was amused by the guilt that showed on her face every time she broke an egg. “It’ll all be worth it soon, put a little more anger in each swing!”

“I don’t have any anger like you do!” She cried out, batting another egg. A notification appeared in front of her, which informed her that she had reached level 9. “H-Hey! I’ve leveled up to 9! I’m almost there to getting my Class!”

Barry stopped throwing eggs at her and began destroying the rest for himself, seeing as he was also close to leveling up. “That’s great, I’m going to take the rest of the guilt upon my self by breaking the rest of the eggs then for compensation.” He then equipped a light hammer and got to smashing.

Kat was relieved that she was no longer killing any more baby spiders, but also would have liked obtaining more experience points by destroying the rest of the eggs. “O-Okay, I’ll be looting the spider corpses then while you do that.”

Barry had a blast going to town on all the eggs that he slaughtered, when he returned to Kat who was taking a rest, his appearance of green yolk all over his body threw her off. “Wha- Barry, you’re a complete mess. How many were there!”

He was now level 19 with about a quarter of the way to his next level. “Enough to appease my rage. Now then, let’s continue onwards.” A trail of green yolk dripped behind as he walked through the next tunnel leading out. Kat didn’t like the stench that the yolk was reeking, covering her nose with a piece of cloth from her inventory.

More glowing fungus was there in the tunnel to illuminate the way out, Kat stayed a couple of extra feet away than needed to avoid being bothered by Barry’s smell.

Eventually, the two would arrive at an alcove of some sort with a massive lake that stretched out beyond it, a simple wooden docking port was set up on the edge. There in the distance, a bright small town could be seen with puffs of smokes rising up from it. Likely a sign that a bonfire was created within the city. Another port was on the other end. “Would you look at that, this might be the place.” Barry said, he wondered if what Ven told him about Puck and Luna being safe was true.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Then, unexpectedly, Barry’s inventory opened up without him doing so. The star amulet that Puck had given him before at the Kobold’s treehouse was shining bright. ‘Could this be a sign that Puck is really here? That’s the only logical reason I can think of if the system is showing me this.’ He thought.

Barry would then message Anna right away about locating the Nightwalker’s hideout and awaited a response back from her. About two minutes would pass with no response back, which was odd to him, and decided to proceed with crossing over to the town.

Kat hoped this was the Nightwalkers new hideout, but at the same time was not looking forward to swimming over across the lake. “We…have to swim, don’t we?” She knew the answer and was not looking forward to, her thoughts pictured the lake monsters that she had encountered with Anna during their fight against a Siren, scared that there were some lurking in the water.

Barry’s legs were already knee-deep into the water, fully ready to swim across. “You know it, now start paddling.”

“W-Wait! I-I’m worried about what's in there!” She replied in a shaky voice.

Barry halted, he would have laughed at Ron or Anna for being afraid of what lived underwater, but knew that Kat was a timid person that was just trying to break out of her comfort zone. “What’s there to be afraid of? Or is it that you can’t swim?”

She shook her head, “I-I can swim just fine…it’s just that…Anna and I fought some creepy monsters at a lake before, and it makes me wonder if there are any like those here…”

Barry let out a heavy sigh, he thought of the only solution to put her mind at ease if he was going to take her across. “Then would you want to hold on to me while we swim there? Will that convince you to go?”

Kat nodded her head with eagerness, it was the only way for her to feel safe. “But first…if you don’t mind…could you wash the yolk off yourself a bit more…please…” She asked shyly.

“Aaaagh! Surrrrre…give me a moment.” He grumbled, rushing to cleanse himself from the rest of the yolk, wiping it away from head to toe in the water, then spoke to her again. “There, I’m clean. Now grab on.”

Kat's nerves told her to get away from the water because of her trauma in the past, but ignored those feelings and got in the water, grabbing onto Barry’s shoulders. “First step done, now we cross. Don't let go, or I'm leaving you in the middle of the lake.” He warned before rapidly kicking his legs to propel them ahead towards the town.

The sudden burst of movement that Barry performed, caused Kat to instinctively wrap her arms around him in a tight hug. She feared that he might actually leave her stranded and made sure that she would never let go.

Barry went as fast as he could for 10 minutes straight before eventually reaching a blind spot of the small town where no one was around. Barry stretched out his legs a bit from putting as much power as he could with each kick, while Kat quickly moved to the wall of a building away from the lake, still scared that something might come out and attack them.

“Shit, you’re still scared, even after making it across? Relax, will you…” Barry said, amazed of how scared she was.

Kat dried herself off the best she could, “I don’t ever want to see those fish creatures again, especially once they revert to being who they were before. And that was even more disturbing because…”

“Because?” Barry was curious about these fish creatures she was talking about, wondering what they were before becoming the monsters she feared so much.

Kat got embarrassed again, imagining what had happened during the aftermath against the Siren. “F-Forget it. I don’t want to talk about it.” She faced away to hide her humiliation, which intrigued him even more but decided not to press her anymore about it.

Once they gathered their bearings, the two began infiltrating the town. Barry took the lead and guided them in between the buildings within the shadows. Torch poles that produced white-bluish fire were stationed around the city, he followed the sight of the smoke with caution while being aware of his surroundings. Either everyone in the town was at this supposed bonfire, or they were all indoors sleeping because they saw no one so far.

Upon reaching the source of the smoke, Barry and Kat finally made a discovery. There were a couple of campfires with small groups of people sitting or standing around them, cooking fish and other kinds of meat. Some of the people looked to be old ladies in dark cloaks, others were younger men and women that wore regular civilian clothing, all of which were chatting with one another.

“They don’t appear to be dangerous, at least not the old grandma’s that is. The ones that appear to be normal civilians could be werewolves, but I don’t see anyone that strikes me as a vampire?” Barry whispered to Kat, he looked around some more but saw no one else besides the ones by the campfire.

Kat was thinking that the grandma’s must have been the witches that Oswald was talking about, despite them being potentially hostile to outsides like them, she was interested in their ways of witchcraft and would have liked to know how it worked.

Barry knew that they needed them to willingly give them what they needed for the potion of future sight, but wondered how else they were going to get them besides asking upfront. “Well…as dumb as it sounds…we just might have to straight up ask them for what we need.”

Kat had the same thought as they travelled to find the Nightwalkers, she saw no other way they could get the ingredients if they had to be given them voluntarily. “You’re right, there really is no other way around to getting them. We’ll just have to hope they’re still as friendly as they were once before.”

Suddenly, a voice from behind them replied to her. “And what makes you say that, young lady.” Both Kat and Barry were startled by this unknown presence that appeared, facing towards the hooded figure that creeped up to them.

Barry had his greatsword drawn from his inventory and aimed at the stalker. His gaze looked at his potential foe, Kat, then positioned behind Barry. No words were spoken at that moment, just silence.

The figure stepped closer, Barry could sense a still but menacing aura resonating from this person. “I don’t like being ignored, so I’ll ask again. What did you mean by, being friendly, as before? Have we met?”

Kat was about to respond to his question, but Barry spoke before she could. “Yeah, we have. If you don’t remember, would you happen to be the one who kidnapped a Kobold and a little girl named Luna, by any chance? Specifically, a Kobold that keepings referring to themselves as, Puck?”

“Hmmm…” A pause was given as the mysterious being thought about it for a moment, then replied. “Ah, I remember you now. You must have been the one who was trying their hardest to catch me before I gave you the slip…buddy.” Barry could hear the amusement in his voice.

‘Just need to get on his good side, so far he’s not trying to kill us, which is a good thing.’ Barry figured that the person probably would have harmed them if they wanted to, since they were able to sneak up on them so easily. “We didn’t come here for trouble, I promise you that. We only came here to get back our friends…along with something else that you people wouldn’t mind giving us.”

There was a moment of silence before the figure decided to respond, this time sounding a bit bothered by Barry’s last choice of words. “You people? What do you mean by that?” The two saw the person stepped closer, seeing their hand within the torchlight, which was a pale white skin color with pointed nails that could serve as weapons.

Kat chimed in, wanting to rephrase what Barry just said. “N-No, I’m sure Barry didn’t mean to insult you all in that way. We were told by Oswald that everyone here is good…or so he believes since the tragic incident…” She actually felt pity for the Nightwalkers.

The name of Oswald perked the mysterious figure’s ears, he wondered how Oswald knew of their existence after what he had done to their previous home, and why he sent people down to find them. “Oswald…so he still thinks that we’re as kind as we were once before, when him and his friend, Ned, destroyed our place of sanctuary…”

“Yes, Oswald regrets what they’ve done to you all, it was an honest mistake of theirs. He chose not to come with us because he’s guilty of meeting everyone here again, especially since his daughter spoke so highly of you all.” Kat hoped that her words were getting through to him, she didn’t want to start a fight with them.

Barry slowly lowered his guard, easing his grip on his greatsword. “He really didn’t mean to blow up your home, it’s the honest-”

The figure stretched a palm out at Barry, and suddenly, Barry felt himself being handled by an unknown force and was hurled out of the alley they were hiding in, his body skittered across the ground until it impacted against a building wall. The people by the campfires were now aware of his appearance, some of which rushed over to inspect their new guest, while others remained and watched from a distance.

Kat was worried that they might have actually ticked this person, she was hoping for everything to go smoothly with some explaining. “W-Wait, Oswald is really sorry for what he’s done. Please, we don’t want to-.”

The being walked over to Kat, his ominous and threatening presence caused her to back away out of the alley to assist Barry with getting back up, who was puzzled by what had happened to him just now. ‘Why was I thrown!? Did he push me somehow?’

“So, Oswald is sorry for what he’s done? How can someone say that after annihilating another’s home, if he really was guilt ridden so badly, then he would have shown up here instead of you two to apologize for him!” Kat and Barry could hear the frustration within his voice, a memory of his previous home’s destruction played back in his mind like a short film.

Barry stood back up, repositioning himself back on guard with his greatsword. He was thinking he might have to apply a bit of force himself to reason with this guy. “It’s the damn truth! Oswald does feel sick to his stomach about what he’s done, and with the loss of his daughter, he-”

Again, Barry was lifted from the ground and flung at another house wall, breaking through one of the windows. “Don’t you dare mention Ivolia’s name to me! You know nothing of her!” The mysterious being’s aura was sending goosebumps all across Kat’s body, she wanted to break the tension somehow but was afraid of what the person might do, especially to Barry who was taking the brunt of his attacks.

From the house that he was thrown inside, Barry burst back out in a fit of rage himself with his weapon in both hands, he was getting tired of getting tossed around like a rag doll. “Quit with the bullshit that you’re doing to me and just listen! We’re telling you-”

The same thing happened again, Barry was pulled from the ground and yanked towards another house. However, the mysterious person had to apply a bit more effort this time for some reason. ‘Odd…flinging him around was easier than before, but this time…hmm…’

Kat had to say something, so she tried calling out to the psionic person. She figured that Ivolia was Sherry’s mother that was killed by the Chakarie. “Please stop, I can see that you’re hurt by what was done to your city and to Sherry’s-” She could no longer open her mouth, the psionic being had sealed her mouth shut.

Barry would continue to be messed with by the psionic for a few more times, each throw that was made required the person to apply more effort, which puzzled him as to why it was. ‘How is it that this person in particular is making me try so hard to? There are only two reasons I can think of…one of which that he’s actually gifted with strong magical capabilities, which can’t be true because I can’t sense any resonating from within him or his aura. And the other reason could be…that his willpower to overcome my influence is getting stronger with each passing moment. Which would be insane…’

It eventually got to the point where Barry was so enraged at being bullied around that he activated, ‘King’s Commanding Presence’, and recovered himself from being embedded into a wall. “I’ve had enough with you treating me like a fucking tennis ball that you can just throw around wherever you want! I’m PISSED!”

He then got into the same stance as the ominous spirit woman had shown him before, trying to replicate the very technique she had by memory. He’s violent emotions were clouding his mind, so he was not able to relax his muscles as she had once done before.

Barry then heard the whisper of the same woman in his ear, this time sounding a bit bothered because of the tense state he was in. ‘You’re not at peace, you must be as gentle as the wind kissing each leaf. This rage you are feeling must be quelled if you are to-’

‘Oh, shut the fuck up! This asshole didn’t listen to what we had to say, so I’m about to express it in my own way!’ Barry was not in the mood to listen to anyone at the time, he wanted to give the person who was toying with him, a piece of his temper.

The psionic vampire tried manipulating Barry once again to stop whatever he was trying to do, but this time he felt his powers having no influence on him, which prompted him to try all he could. ‘What!? How can he resist me? This should be impossible for him, no matter how vast his will is!’

Barry could feel his body being somewhat influenced by his opponent’s powers, but it wasn’t enough to stop him, this only further enraged him. “How fucking funny is that!? I can feel you trying your damnest to mess with me, but you can’t now, huh? Well, there's a first time for everything, bastard!!”

‘Barry, you can’t perform the same technique I’ve shown you. It must be done in a calm and-’

‘How many times do I have to tell you!? Don’t tell me what to DO!’ Barry shouted at the woman in his mind, suppressing her presence and converting all his focus on replicating the same move in his own way.

“This is unbelievable…just who are you!” The mysterious being asked from a distance, still struggling to interrupt him, but having no progress whatsoever.

Barry felt like his stance and form was good enough to match what the woman had done before, and began channeling his inner temper within into his arms, preparing to perform his first attempt ever at copying the technique. “My name is quite simple, a rather boring one I’ll admit, but remember it when I say…” He pulled the trigger. “MY NAME IS FUCKING BARR-”

“Puck back with more delicious food- Ah! Is that you, Barry!?” Like spawning in from out of nowhere, Puck arrived on the scene with a bunch of colorful neon looking funguses.

With the sudden appearance of his lost friend, Barry lost concentration on the technique he was trying to achieve and flimsily swung his sword downwards, the fires within himself sizzled down after catching sight of Puck. “Puck? You’re…okay?” He was shocked that Ven might have actually been telling the truth about him and Luna being safe.

Puck dropped what he was holding and ran up to Barry with joy, while everyone else remained still and watched everything that was unfolding. Kat looked on at the little Kobold that ran circles around Barry with a smile. ‘That’s Puck!? He looks so…adorable.’

Barry was still in disbelief of seeing Puck free and roaming about, he looked back at the hooded figure who lowered his hand from trying to move him anymore with his telekinesis. Barry did the same and stowed away his weapon back in his inventory. “Puck…I can’t believe that you're actually okay. Did these people do anything to you while we were separated?” He had to ask to be sure.

Puck stopped running around and replied, “Puck fine, people here feed and play games with Puck. They good people, yeah, and take care of Luna.” The Kobold really did seem to be in high spirits, appearing just as fine as he had last seen him.

‘So Anna’s little sister is doing alright as well…then Ven really was telling the truth. It’s just so hard to trust him with his irritating personality.’ Barry thought, he was finally relieved to be reunited with Puck once again.

Then, entering the scene, was a young gorgeous woman with pale white skin and long wavy light blonde hair, her eyes were a golden color. She appeared to me in a haste, her eyes shifting around for something till she locked her sights on Puck. “There you are, you little rascal. I’ve got you…now...who are these people?” The woman appeared confused.

Kat and Barry assumed she was a vampire based on appearance, it was too similar to how vampires were portrayed in media from back on Earth.

The hooded figured let out a heavy sigh and pushed back his hood before responding to her question, revealing a man with similar features to the woman that appeared. His hair was the same color, except the length of his wavy hair ended at his chin and formed an M shape. “Guests, Sylvia…uninvited one’s at that…”

Sylvia, the vampire woman, glanced back and forth from Barry to Kat and started laughing. “Ah haha, uninvited guests you say brother, that’s quite funny- wait a second!” Her expression then turned in shock. “Were we discovered by the people above!? Edward! Tell me it hasn’t happened yet!”

Edward, the vampire that was giving Barry a hard time, replied in a calmer manner than he was before when he was angry. “I have yet to find out, whether they came to rat out our location to the people of Haglethorn, or…” He then turned to look at Barry with intense eyes. “For another reason, which was to find their, kidnapped, friends.”

Kat was able to speak with her mouth once again and spoke. “Y-Yes, we didn’t come here to tell anyone about your hideout. It’s like we said, E-Edward sir, we just wanted to get our friends back…and well…”

She was worried about asking them for the ingredients they needed to make the potion that would help them find a clue to solving the main quest, Barry picked up where she was too afraid to ask. “We need your help, you and everyone else here. It’s a lot that we’re asking, but it’s for a good cause, and that is to save the world. I know this might sound crazy but-”

“The main quest, is that what you need our help for?” Edward knew what they were getting at, he eased up a bit, but was still unsure about Kat and Barry.

His response surprised the two, they now assumed that everyone in the world must have been included in the game by now. Puck heard Edward mention about the main quest and spoke. “Oh, yeah! Barry, Ron, and Puck are on a special mission to save the world! We go find mojo’s friend Oscar, something like that, and ask him for help. Barry telling truth, yeah.”

Sylvia and Edward looked at each other for a moment, it seemed as if they were speaking to each other telepathically, before they broke concentration. Edward then turned his back, now facing towards the other Nightwalkers that were listening and watching everything. “Go back to what you were doing, these people are not here to bring trouble. I will keep watch of them, so relax.”

The Nightwalkers trusted Edward’s words and went back to their campfires. Barry wasn’t sure what was going to happen next, Edward had cleared him and Kat’s name but didn’t know what they had planned for them. “So…will you take us to Luna and help with-”

“Silence, not a word out of you unless I ask. The shy young lady will be your speaker from now on till you are gone or spoken to. We will take you to your friend Luna, as for your other request…I will think on it.” Edward was very stern when telling Barry, he didn’t like him for the fact that he was unable to move him with his telekinesis towards the end of their little fight.

Barry just accepted his response, but was irritated. ‘Fine, fuck you too then…’

They then followed Edward to one of the buildings in town to where Luna was staying at. With having reached their destination, Barry and Kat wondered how the rest of the group was doing and if they would reach the Nightwalkers' hideout as well.
