Chapter 29: The Guest Arrives

  Pre-marital cohabitation

"Miss Tong, please get in the car. I am Cheng Han's older brother, Cheng Tian Nan." The rear door of the car was open, and on the genuine leather back seat, unlike Cheng Han's sloppy image, Cheng Tian Nan had a robust build and regular features, wearing a well-pressed suit.

"Thank you." Fearing being squeezed by the reporters, Tong Jing quickly got into the car and drove away, leaving the reporters far behind. After all, compared to Tong Jing, this newcomer, Cheng Han, who had just won first place with his debut film, was more newsworthy.

Cheng Tian Nan sent Tong Qiang to the Blue Dolphin and then left. As soon as she got off the car, Tong Qiang called Qian Li saying that she was back at her apartment. On the phone, Qian Li seemed even colder than before and didn't say anything, letting Tong Qiang hang up.

Cheng Han gave Tong Jing the script of the TV series that was about to start filming during lunch, preparing her to audition for the role of the second female lead. "Years of Quiet Goodness" is a film set in the period when the war broke out.

Female No. 2 - Su Yue is the youngest daughter of Huizhou merchant Su's family, naive and romantic, while Female No. 1 is played by Yu Na as Su Jing, and the actor playing her fiancé Male No. 1 is popular male artist Song Tianhao.

  Script outline.

The second daughter, Su Yue, was still a sixteen-year-old girl, sharp-tongued and quick-witted, always worried that her gentle and virtuous older sister would be bullied by her future brother-in-law, constantly arguing with him and causing trouble, ruining the couple's dates.

Dongfang Rang was the eldest grandson of a prestigious family, with extensive knowledge and elegant demeanor. This refined and dignified man had a liking for the little girl who would argue with him, and as time passed, one day Dongfang Rang suddenly discovered that the person he truly liked was not the gentle and elegant older sister Su Jing, but rather this carefree and lively little girl Su Yue.

But just as Dongfang Rang was about to defy the entire family and give up his engagement with Su Jing to marry Su Yue, fate played a trick on him, war broke out, and the whole country fell into the flames of war.

Dongfang Rang, as the eldest son of the Dongfang family and half-reliant on the Su family, eventually arranged for a boat to take both families from Shanghai to Hong Kong to escape.

But just at the moment of boarding, Su Yue, who was always a lively little girl in the eyes of both families, resolutely got off the boat and left with the marching college students to participate in the war of resistance.

The boat set off, and standing on the deck, Dongfang Rang felt that his soul was missing a corner. He grasped the railing tightly with both hands, unable to accompany her for a while because behind him were the elderly, women, and children of two families. He also couldn't stop her from leaving, as she had a patriotic heart, so all Dongfang Rang could do was watch Su Yue leave.

After settling down in Hong Kong, Dongfang Rang used the money from the Dong and Su families to start transporting medicine back home. Time and time again, he tried to gather information about Su Yu through his connections, but was met with disappointment every time.

In those years of war and chaos, human life was as light as a feather, many people shed their hot blood on the battlefield, without even a tombstone, hastily buried with yellow earth. Under repeated disappointments, Dongfang Rang finally could not resist his nostalgia, and followed the ship carrying medicine to Shanghai, but unfortunately, he had not found Su Yue, and was detained by the Japanese devils along with the ship.

In that hell-like prison, Dongfang Rang thought he would die, but when he opened his eyes, tears rolled down from the corners of his eyes, and his little girl's neat short hair was still unchanged with a brilliant smile.

After being rescued, Dongfang Rang returned to Hong Kong. Just like in the past, he was on the boat while she was on the shore. However, this time, there were her comrades by her side, that tall and handsome man who seemed more suitable standing beside her than himself.

From the civil war to the anti-Japanese war, eight years had passed and Dongfang Rang finally married Su Jing. After the country stabilized, the Dongfang family and the Su family had already taken root in Hong Kong and were unwilling to return to the mainland. The Su family inquired about their youngest daughter's whereabouts, but they never thought that Su Yue would have died many years ago with the crime of being a traitor on her back.

It turned out that the time Dongfang Rang was caught by the Japanese invaders, Su Yue went alone to the Japanese military camp and exchanged her own secrets for Dongfang Rang's safe departure. The tall and handsome man who followed Su Yue was actually a disguised Japanese invader.

After the ship that sent Dongfang Ruan away left, Su Yue didn't reveal a single word to the Japanese army, and died heroically. However, she was still posthumously labeled as a traitor. After the victory of the war, her body was dug up, restless in death, which was the final outcome of the once lively and innocent little girl.

Tong Jing sat on the sofa, slowly opening the script and starting to read. Her originally somewhat dull-looking face was now focused and serious, occasionally thinking about the psychology of Su Yue, the female lead she needed to audition for. It wasn't until she heard the doorbell that Tong Jing realized she had spent an entire afternoon reading the script, and outside the window, the sun had already set in the west.

"Miss Tong." Guan Yao held some fruit in his hand, still wearing casual clothes, with a refined and elegant face, and glasses covering those sharp eyes. He spoke warmly, "I'm really sorry about what happened last time, and I ended up getting you hurt."

"Don't be polite." Tóng Jiǎo looked at Guān Yào standing in the doorway with a puzzled expression, until Guān Yào felt his legs were about to go numb. Only then did Tóng Jiǎo remember that when guests come to the door, they should first invite them in to sit down, rather than thinking about why Guān Yào had come over.

Taking over the fruit and making way for Guan Yao to enter, Tong Jing lowered her head and took a look at the bag, "Is this an American navel orange?"

"Uh, last time I saw you bought a lot of fruit, so today I just casually bought a little." Guan Yao nodded and was about to step into the living room when he heard Tong Ying whispering behind him, "15 yuan per kilogram, one can buy three domestic oranges."

He paused for a moment, Guan Yao couldn't help but smile. He hadn't expected that Tong Jing, such a young girl, would have such strong patriotic feelings. For some reason, he felt like he had gotten closer to her. "Next time I'll remember to buy domestic products."

"That's not necessary, I heard that the navel oranges from California are very sweet." Tong Jing added a sentence and walked towards the kitchen to prepare two oranges on a fruit plate.

"Was the last time you bought domestic oranges?" Guan Yao, as a criminal detective, naturally had first-rate observational skills. So, today's fruits, apart from oranges, also included two boxes of strawberries and some imported apples, which cost over 10 yuan per kilogram.

Tong Jing raised her eyes, looked at Guan Yao with a thoughtful expression, and then opened her mouth decisively, with a calm face. "It's all about eating, domestic ones are much cheaper, but if you come to the door to deliver fruit, you must buy expensive ones, this is etiquette."

It turns out that she is the one who has been deceived! Guan Yao finally understood Tong Jing's logic. In this day and age, how can there still be girls like her? Guan Yao shook his head with a smile, looking at the sliced oranges on the fruit plate, jokingly saying: "Then I'll have to eat a bit more, no one will send me American navel oranges."

So when Tan Jiyang came over, the living room sofa was left with an empty fruit plate, and there were not a few orange peels in the trash can. The faint scent of fruit floated in the air, while Guan Yao, who was always warm and elegant, wiped his hands and smiled, while Tong Jing sat on the side, eating the last piece of orange. Do men nowadays have the habit of competing with women for food?
