Chapter 16: Pying with the woof woofs. After they relocate their defence line to the top of the city wall, the guild leader still does not go up. He absolutely dominated the wolves when he first jumped down. However, his enemy wasn't dumb. The alpha started to attack as well, and the Le had no choice but to defend against the alpha specifically, leaving the wolves to the others to handle.
In truth, the alpha was weaker than Le by a significant margin. However, the alpha knew to never engage in a direct confrontation. It just kept the guild leader at bay by faking attacks on the city. However, even if the Le clearly knew they were fakes, he had no choice but to stop them anyway, as a fake attack could very well turn real.
Time passes quickly. One hour, two hours, three hours. By now, the guild leader's eyes are one-seventh lidded. The long fight wears down the nerves of everyone. The wolves seem to be a never-ending tide. Yet, even they have lost half their remaining members by now.

Recepti has entered a trance. A wolf jumps in from the front, so she ducks down and strikes upward. A wolf approaches low, so she just swings down. A wolf tries to sneak by, so she does a sideward step before beheading it. Two wolves jump in from both sides, so she does a horizontal swing. Somehow, her adrenaline keeps her going, even when she should have long colpsed. Even when her physical strength is long gone.
Yet even this preservation soon comes to an end. Recepti tries to stab another wolf through its belly, but the sword can't pierce deep enough. Desperately, she jumps back, leaving the sword stuck in its belly. The wolf nds, and through its own body weight, the sword pierces through its belly completely. And yet, the crisis is only partially averted. Another wolf has already appeared. It jumps toward her.
In her most desperate moment, she suddenly remembers something: "If you have an urgent question for me, please rip this note." For some reason, she decided to take the note with her when she left the inn a week ago. For some reason, she just never disposed of it, and for some reason, she took it with her in this battle. With her st strength, she puts her hand in her pocket and tears the note.
Meanwhile, with her other hand, she punches into the lunging wolf's mouth, messing up its windpipe, before the wolf bites down, cleanly biting her arm off. Now the wolf seems hesitant. It knows that a prey struggles the most right before its death. It looks at her bitten-off arm and comes to a conclusion: let her bleed out. So it waits, eyes fixed on the prey and looks out for the slightest of weaknesses.

In the blink of an eye, seven days have passed. During these seven days, I perfected the masterpiece that is the Poki Ball. First of all, this ball contains a portal to a subdimension.
The subdimension blocks all spatial magic from the inside and outside using my Magic Power. This means that, to escape from there, you'd not only need to bring up the Magic Power to teleport, but also additionally more Magic Power than I have. To add to that, since this is a subdimension, destroying the walls is even more difficult than teleporting outside. Even if you did, it would cause you to be stranded in the infinite void, a pce without concepts like time, space and matter. The moment you are stranded there, you simply cease to exist.
How do I know about it, you ask? Well, some time ago, I wondered what would happen if a subdimension colpsed. However, I'm not strong enough to colpse a subdimension or any dimension for that matter, so I tried something different. I created an unstable subdimension by messing with the barrier during creation. Then I marked several objects, allowing me to view their surroundings from afar and threw them into the subdimension before increasing the instability enough for a colpse.
What I saw surprised me. The objects simply dissolved at an incredibly fast speed the moment they came into contact with the void. Even the bug I put in there vanished. My Magic Power persisted somehow tho. Well, definitely a fun way to screw somebody over.
Now, to make my Poki Ball habitable, I found a river and made a small part of it flow through the subdimension. Also, I created a semi-permeable, invisible portal. It lets air flow through normally, but other stuff does not.
Finally, I simuted a small sun by using the same concept for sunlight.
"Now, what am I going to do with you?"
I look at the wolf in front of me. Creating a Poki Ball in one go is impossible for me, as even my Mana is not enough to support such a big spell. Therefore, I need to use several smaller spells. First, one that creates the subdimension, then one that connects the subdimension to the ball and so on. This causes the creation of a single ball to take at least five days of Magic Power regeneration.
Because of that, I don't pn to make any more for now, and the Poki Ball I did create is too precious to be used on this wolf. It did help as a guinea pig, tho, so it would be a pity to just kill it. Therefore, I guess it will continue to serve as a guinea pig. I could use it as a practice target for spells that can be used on living creatures only. Things like mind control, transformation, or gigantification. Before, I only used bugs, but they have a profound ck of intellect. Hopefully, experimenting on this wolf will give me some more experience.
Right after that decision, something tugs at my mind. It's the arm I sometimes set before I sleep. But why now? A few seconds of deliberation reveal the answer. It's the note I gave the receptionist. I did it in case she just had to know about something, while I was still sleeping, but she never used it—until now. Did something happen, or did it just rip? I'd better at least verify.
I use magic to "look at the pce, my note just ripped". To use cirvoyance magic, you need to have some kind of reference. The more personal the reference, the less Magic Power it will cost. What I see surprises me. The receptionist is currently in a tense stare-off with a wolf. One of her arms is bitten off, and she seems to have lost more blood than is healthy.
Now what to do? How about a cool entrance? Ah, I know!

On the battlefield, Wolf and Recepti are still in a stare-off. Suddenly, a purple line etches itself in the air behind the defenders. It seems so insignificant, yet it captures the attention of everyone, without exception. Somehow, even the ones with their back to it turn around, as if under some magical spell. Slowly, a rectangle appears. Then, it swings to the side, like a door opening. Behind it, a little girl stands. She walks out, as if walking on air. Each of her steps somehow sends ripples through the air.
When she is in front of the defenders, she stops walking. Slowly, she lifts her hands until they are open above her head with her arms stretched completely. Beside her, spikes materialise. They seem as if somebody had just ripped out a part of space and formed it into a spike. After twenty spikes materialise, she swings her arms downward until they point at the wolves. The spikes shoot forward, like arrows released from their bows, and each targets a wolf. Before the wolves can react, they are pierced by a spike. Yet the spikes don't dissipate. They continue and fly toward new targets. Now the wolves react. They desperately try to dodge, yet the spikes change their course. One tries to hide behind a human. The spike swerves around the human and accurately pierces the wolf's brain. Within a minute, several hundred wolves have met their end.
The wolves that are left are cuddled together. The spikes, like orcas hunting a fish school, or dogs herding sheep, moved in a way that caused the wolves to gather. Suddenly, the spikes dissipate. The wolves, seemingly eted, run forward again before hitting a barrier and bouncing off. A barrier that mysteriously appeared at some point.
Then the girl disappears, starting from her head, while reappearing within the barrier. It's as if somebody warps her there yer by yer. However, she somehow reappears holding a wooden sword. What comes next is a massacre, if what came before wasn't already. The girl moves through the wolves and, like a wnmower, slices off heads from the wolves' shoulders one by one. As she does, she starts ughing. At first, it's a quiet chuckle. Then it turns into the ugh a child might have when pying with a fun toy. In the end, it sounds like the ughter of a madwoman.
Meanwhile, anyone who catches a glimpse of her face falls on their butt before frantically running away.
After half an hour, only one remains. The alpha, who was so confident before, is now desperately scratching at the barrier. However, no matter how much it scratches, nothing happens. It should never have led the wolves here to this monster! It should have just let this pce be! Even fighting that giant reptile wouldn't have been so scary!
At some point, everything behind it turned silent. It slowly turns around. Suddenly, it is face-to-face with the monster. Its frail heart can't take it anymore, and it faints. It is unaware, as it is picked up by a small hand. It is also unaware, as a childish voice excims: "Such a smart doggo! I'll have it as my pet!" It is also unaware, as a ball is held against it, absorbing it, before wobbling three times and then making a click sound.
After capturing the wolf in some strange device, the girl turns around, her shorts, shirt and the rest of her body still covered in blood, while standing in the sea of corpses she just created. Then, with a harmless, cheerful smile expected of an eight-year-old, she shouts in a simirly harmless and cheerful voice, "I killed them all!" while winking and acting as if she wants to be praised for a good deed.
