The cold atmosphere shivered my bones, visible breaths coming out and my feet begging for warmth.
This was a feeling I couldn't get used to no matter what. Even back in Nightlight, I got repeatedly wetted because I kept on forgetting to keep an umbrella.
Noticing something, I brought my head to the traffic stop, cars orderly moving with the vibrant colors of the lights commanding vehicles.
It almost seemed like a battle.
The traffic light being the commander and the cars being soldiers.
Without letting my imagination go wild, I turned to the cars that were packed with order. Each vehicle emitted a wave I was too familiar with, and yet there was another source of it without any clear signs.
From the last of the road to the very front, all of it emitted the same waves. No electricity, no digital machines, just a road that people use.
It shouldn't do that, and despite that it did.
I kept the information in the back of my mind, making sure I would remember it tonight. After all, he couldn't think about it right now, non important things were the last to be completed.
The bell above the entrance rang at the movement of the door.
Julo looked around, finding a perfect corner before taking a seat.
Without waiting for anyone, he reached into his bag, pulling out a laptop as the fans spun.
“Ma’am would you like the menu?” Still not used to getting called, ma'am, I nodded clearly.
His eyes observed Julo's face before shaking his head.
“Here.” Handing it to me, my eyes briefly darted through the pages, not knowing what to eat.
Although he had high expectations due to the reviews online saying exaggerated compliments, his taste still matters.
If a plate of salad landed in front of him, he wouldn't like it no matter what, even if it was made by the finest chef. Of course, maybe he would try it out sometimes but it wasn't this time.
My eyes landed on a specific meal and without any hesitation, I called the waiter, ordered it with an energy drink before the laptop’s screen lit up.
‘I hope this one doesn't get demolished again.’ Hoping for fate outside of my reach, I pulled out a chip the size of my thumb.
Still thinking about the miracle it was, I neatly and carefully inserted it.
A white box appeared on the screen, asking if I would use the chip inserted. Without any delay, the cursor slid towards the yes option.
[ Memory card inserted
A smile creeped onto my face, checking the memory to confirm what I had speculated before probing into the files.
As I expected, the chip had an ungodly memory storage capacity, a bit larger than what I had expected and the physical size a bit smaller than what was publicly possible.
The files, while they didn't look interesting with all of the codes and junk, it was still necessary to look at. The chances of it being encrypted were rare, from what I could see most of the datas was for making sure the machine didn't overstrain and controlling the output which is basically useless to me.
[It's all useless junk] Morse code vibrated from his pocket, reassuring him.
[Let me..hold on.] Invisible threads of waves bursting out of his hands, replying to his A.G.I via the same method.
The noise of rapid clicking, echoed through the room as no one bothered to pay attention to the annoying customer.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
[Are you here now?] Julo asked, curious if it worked or not.
Before Julo could even hear the reply, his eyes lit up like a lightbulb, sensing the laptop doing exactly as told without fail as a face he hadn't seen in a long time, smiled brightly on the screen.
[Yup!] The data transfer was a success, the A.G.I retained all of its memories and the chip’s storage hadn't run out yet. This, especially the latter, sent my fragile heart into a frenzy.
Fingers twitching under the table, legs swinging back and forward and a stupid grin.
[Alright.] Calming my mind down akin to dropping a cup of water inside the Earth's core. Despite this, I steadily controlled myself to not forget today's task.
[Let's find them, shall we?]
***
The deafening silence of the room, flooded with rays from the thunder, drowning the silence with heavy rains.
Each eye exchanged gazes, waiting for the ship to arrive as they watched the waves clashing against each other. Seconds passing into minutes as time ticked without their consent.
“Show me that video again.” Hitomi asked, breaking the thick air as her voice relived the atmosphere.
Travesita reached into the bag, taking out a laptop the size of his chest. Ignoring the size, she lifted it out effortlessly without a single sign of struggle.
The lit screen was drowned in blazing lights, the thunder making it impossible to see. Well, the impossible was possible for an Uncoiled.
The cursor darted onto the only file, double clicking it. With the video file loading, Hitomi squinted her eyes, carefully examining every single moment.
A woman running away from someone in the heavy weather, unable to make out her face with each droplet enshrouding her face.
As she bolted out of the place, she vanished in the rain before reappearing near a ship.
“You sure this is Julo right?”
Travesita closed her eyes as she sighed.
“Yes, this is Julo.”
She paused before continuing her sentence, suggesting that this conversation had been repeated before.
“Just trust me, ok?” She looked at her, eventually deciding to not question her anymore as she walked towards the door.
“Where are you going?”
“This is getting boring.” Replying without a break, her hand twisted the door handle as the air of the hallway rushed towards the gap of the door.
As the room filled up with cold air, Travesita followed suit, pressing her hands against the bed before standing up.
Turning her head, she looked at Lent, watching him staring down on the ground. From the incident, he had been more talkative than usual. But still, he wasn’t the talkative type.
“I hope you’re not uncomfortable.” She didn’t know much about guys, although she usually disguises as them, the insides of their mind was quite mysterious to her.
“I’m not. I feel more safe with both of you.” Reassuring her, he went back to staring at the ground, seemingly in a deep thought as she closed the door.
Hitomi, climbing the stairs onto the open space, her legs rubbed across the floor. Wind gushing at an unmatched pace, no signs of stopping in sight.
Annoyed at her hair waving in the wind, she gathered all of the strands as she tightly squeezed them, preventing any strands from blocking her face.
Her fingers, closed in, the railing’s texture colder than ever before, with the risk of slipping in the rain.
The grip in her finger surpassed anyone in the group, as a cyborg, she could extend a certain material excellent at gripping and holding.
Although it was quite tiring, she didn't mind using it on special occasions.
Her heart beating until no ends, the time clear in her head, and each droplet of rain countable.
Hitomi’s mind filled with unnecessary information even if she liked it or not. From the texture of the railing to the distance of each thunder. Despite this, her mind had already gotten used to it. After all, she had experienced worse.
Time went by, waves fighting until no end as footsteps, drowned by the sound of rain.
“Do you think we'll be able to get back to our usual life?”
Her voice, almost overwhelmed by the rain, rang out. The footsteps became audible as Travestita watched the ripples of sea, chaotic as usual.
She paused before replying.
“You and him, maybe. For me, probably not.”
Hitomi's eyes widened, her body facing Travestita with her fingers still on the railing. Without a break in the air, she voiced her concerns.
“Why?” Hitomi’s tight fingers trembled, trouble with gripping seemed impossible yet she had.
she could understand if Travestita only said all of them won't get back to their current life. However that was not the case.
Her mind, still damaged from the incident, her worries were still sharp, almost cutting her brain. She couldn't let anyone suffer as they had fun. No no no, she wouldn't allow that.
Her lips dripped with water as Hitomi's eyes stared at it, expectancy overloaded in pairs until a voice escaped.
“Because I don't have any evidence of existence.”
Her eyes locked with hers, processing clogged her brain as the air was filled with silence…That isn't quite right, the silence wasn't real. The surrounding had rain pouring down and thunder roaring from across the horizon, yet her mind refused to process.
“Wait.” Her voice raised, fighting against the deafening ambience.
“Then…how do you..” Tone filled with hesitation, and without even needing to finish these words, Travestita understood.
“I don't. That's why Gino took me.” Her gentle voice stunned Hitomi, her expression filled to the brim with worries.
“I’m going to the social room.” She seemed laid back but in truth she wasn't.
With her secret exposed to her close friends, she had worried all night beforehand, thinking if it was the right choice. Considering each factor, she eventually concluded it was best to reveal Incase her secret brought troubles.
If she couldn't trust them, might as well die in the sea.
“Have you told him?” She shouted, stopping her steps.
Without a single word, her hand shot up, revealing a thumb up as she resumed walking.
