Chapter 51

The next morning Kennon pulled fresh bread from the pantry and made them sandwiches. Bev had gotten the bathroom working perfectly. And Kennon had worked on the housewide enchants like self cleaning. After Bev gave him a quick rundown on the procedure he was as good at it as her.

Hopefully they would be done when Bev got back from the guild. Senec told her to show up as soon as she could. And to bring her dagger. She thought he was being a bit over dramatic. How could a single sonic attack dagger be worth all this?

Still it would be nice to see the guild stores. The merchant wall carried just about anything an average person could. Want. and at the lowest price in the city. But the adventurers guild had everything you could imagine.

Bev wouldn’t be finding many monster parts in the merchant wall. And she would be finding no weapons at all. Anything intended for causing harm was regulated by the guild. They were pretty lenient on who they sold to. But they wanted proper records of all weapon sales. Even person to person trade had to be registered.

It made sense. Anyone who left the city walls needed a way to defend themselves. But the city wanted to know who had what weapons.

With Kennon’s help Bev suited up. Her new dagger in one of her spatial sheaths. Then headed to the guild.

It was amazing what wearing armor did for a person’s image. Both in the eyes of others and in their own eyes. Bev had no intention of getting in a fight today. Maybe she would test her new dagger against something in the trainer. But walking in full plate armor made her feel like a warrior. And it seemed to give her the courage of one as well.

In the residential sector kids looked at her in awe, and their parents in fear. In the noble sector some looked at her as though she ruled the street. While at the same time she heard some mention that it was made of plain steel. She needed to fix that.

And as she got close to the adventurers guild people looked at her with respect. One elderly man actually tipped his hat to her! Even others wearing gear, gear better than hers, looked at her as a colleague.

She walked in and made her way to the front desk. She showed her badge and said she had an appointment with Senec.

The instant his name passed her lips the man appeared and opened the way for her. He took her down a familiar hall and said, “I don’t think you understand what you made at all. So we are going to test it. In the trainer, summon an image of the most fearsome foe you have faced. And strike it with a fully charged dagger.”

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Bev simply nodded as he brought her to an empty training room. She entered and started the simulation. This time Senec was beside her and seemed to almost remble with anticipation. She had to admit she was excited too. Getting to test equipment out without risking her life was a novel feeling. She liked it. Hopefully they didn’t mind her coming here more often.

After drawing the blade, and taking half a minute to charge it, she imagined the sun tiger they met during their escape. She imagined it standing still in front of her. And she nearly jumped when it appeared.

It looked perfect. Even its mana signature was perfect.

“Sun tiger? You were in the Colville portal? How did you survive a T4 portal?”

Bev ignored him. And struck the dread beast with a stab to the eye. And watched as its head promptly turned into a red mist along with the first half of its shoulders.

Bev just stared at the fallen form of the beast. Too stunned to speak. Was it really that good?

“Is the trainer malfunctioning?” she said.

He shook his head. “No. Actually I expected more damage. It must have been a peak T2 beast. Now try this.”

At that a stone elemental appeared. And he handed her a knife. She identified them both.

  Stone elemental - elemental - T3

Sharpness 2 mana enriched steel knife - knife - T1

Try my knife. This is something that any scout worth their salt will want to buy at some point.

Bev could already feel where this was headed. She stabbed with all her might. Even using movement aura. But it didn’t even scratch it.

Then she charged her dagger and poked it just hard enough for the blade to register the impact.

A fist sized chunk of the elemental started to vibrate rapidly, crack, and shatter to the ground.

Senec looked at her and said, “You made a T1 dagger. With T1 materials that can harm a T3 that is resistant to sharp weapons. It doesn’t matter if your dagger even has a blade with that enchantment. And that knife? It cost twenty silver. If you sell your dagger for less than two gold you are a fool.”

She was properly impressed by the performance. And she had provisionally agreed to his price. She was still looking forward to checking out the weapons store though. If her daggers sold as well as Senec said she could just buy a new staff for Kennon.

He also planned to introduce her to some people he knew. Apparently she could make arrangements for the guild store to buy the daggers as quickly as she could make them. At least that was what he said.

She still found it hard to believe. Surely she wasn’t the first to do this. Surely this wasn’t some unheard of feat of enchanting. Void she was still an initiate!

Or was it the growth system? She had access to practically every T1 rune in existence to pick and choose from. As well as an instructor that would make sure she used the chosen runes perfectly. Was it possible that no one here even knew about the reverberate rune?
