Chapter 3: You Learn Something Every Day

  After clearing the misunderstanding, it turned out that Rudy’s playboy attitude did not differentiate in gender, which frightened Soula. Seeking protection, he quickly made friends with Runa and Rika. Runa was a cheerful girl who was a slight airhead and Rika was a hothead with a fiery temper. All of them learned from their parents how to fight and later they all started to train together. Every morning we trained in stat improvement and planned to raise our level later.

  Although they are good friends, Soula rarely interacted with them due to isolating himself for training.

  That is if he revealed his skills to everyone, which almost no one would've done.

  Several months have passed since Soula met the new neighbors. All of them are now five years old.

  During the last few months the children went to the local teacher to learn the basics such as writing and mathematics. Having learned most of the concepts, Soula only paid attention to history and general information.

  Basically the summarized information Soula learned were the following:

  Practitioners are labeled into the following categories of power rank:

  1st - 9th gate

  - From the first gate (Lv 1-99) to the 9th gate (Lv 800-899) it would take a lifetime. Most people reach only up to the 2nd gate

  Saint

  - Geniuses who surpassed their limits and understand the laws of the universe. Saints are those who can crush  countries overnight and massacre tens of thousands of people with half their power.

  (Lv 900-999)

  Deity [Unranked]

  - Those who can crush a Saint with a finger and never die of old age, as well as freely crossing other worlds. Saints are lucky if they become Deities before death as even with long life it would take 10,000 years at least. Upon reaching the Deity level, one no longer dies of old age and will revert to their prime in youth. (Lv 1000-1999)

  Demigod

  - The next rank of the Deities. (Lv 2000-2999)

  God

  - The next rank after Demigod. (Lv 3000-3999)

  Highgod

  - The peak of all practitioners. The last rank for many, but there are some monsters that still train at this level. (Lv 4000-4999)

  Overlord

  - Monsters who never gave up and achieved limitless power and fame. The number of Overlords throughout the whole universe amount to less than 10,000. (Lv 5000-9999)

  Overgod of [???]

  - Mastering all the divine laws of an element, there are only 100 people who achieved this rank. Those who reach this rank will have a personal title bestowed upon them. The most famous of them is the Overgod of Void, God to all Beastmen.(Lv 10000)

  There was a command list for all system commands.

  One of the most important information he learned was about the skill [Oversoul].

  From the students, a young boy asked, “Teacher, what’s a beast soul?” a young boy asked/

  “A beast soul is the soul of a monster. When one reaches a Gate level, you will be notified you that you can absorb the beast soul of the monster you defeated. You can choose not to and pick another, but you cannot change beast spirits once you get it. The only thing that matters in a beast spirit is it’s abilities, not level. So a level 1 [Dragon] is obviously a better choice than a level 100 [Slime].”

  A girl questioned, “So does that mean we can absorb any beast spirit?”

  “No, depending on your affinities, there will be some monsters not compatible with you. Don’t worry about this because the notification window will tell your adaptability with the spirit. You can’t absorb a spirit with less than 20% adaptability. It is extremely hard to find monsters with good adaptability, unless you’re a beastmen with a similar race.”

  “In one week, we will hold a ceremonial training camp to allow all villagers at the ages 4-10 to go to a dungeon and acquire a beast soul. First you must reach the 1st Gate before you absorb a beast soul.”

  For the rest of that week, all of the children in the village trained harder so that they could find and defeat a powerful monster for their beast soul.
