Wolves don’t feel fear. He tried telling himself over and over again. Human born knew fear, not wolves. Yet he couldn’t move. Michelle was doing her best, but in the confines of the enclosed space, the blonde monster of a man was pressing her farther and closer to the wall. Hysminai couldn’t move. He wanted to. Get up! He screamed at himself to move but his body was frozen in place.
A howl suddenly pierced the claustrophobic space. Hysminai whipped around and saw his Alpha, Keva, stand up straight, bringing her werewolf body to her full six-foot, ten-inch height. The reddish-brown furred female had fire raging in her bright golden eyes. Hysminai looked from his Alpha back to the blond man. He didn’t seem so big as he had a moment before. Hysminai’s claws could move and the paralyzing fear ebbed from his body. The Healer stood up and in a joint pincer movement with his Alpha, the two sprinted at Paley from both sides.
Hysminai cut low and swept at the man’s legs, while Keva went high and ripped at the man’s throat and face. Michelle dove straight for his lower torso and pounded the man’s stomach with her claws.
Paley fell back away from the cream-colored monster under the fresh assault. He fell backwards fending off the attacks as best he could. He knew that he was bleeding from various wounds, the furs and skins that he wore gave him some protection, but with the combined strength of three of them at once, it was more than even he could withstand.
He moved backwards trying to keep the monsters in front of him. He had to think of something. He whirled around and grabbed the monster who was still on his knees. He picked it up and hurled it against his attackers. He stumbled back trying to get to the door, but the entrance was blocked.
What had happened? His Berserker rage was enough to subdue any animal. His aura of strength and rage had never failed to cause panic and paralysis in any woodland creature. These animals were no different. They were monsters, things from legends, but so was he. He wasn’t done yet. These animals would soon learn what it was to fight one descended from the bear clan. With a howl of his own he charged.
Keva was still weak, as she was sure all of them were. It would take a few more pounds of protein, carbs, and fat for each of them before they were anywhere near refreshed from starving for the last week. But even so, weak as she was, there was no way in hell she was going to let Paley, or anyone else, kill another of her pack.
She charged forward and grabbing the furs that draped over Paley’s chest, she fell backwards hard, throwing the large man over her head and letting his body crash into the wall behind her. She kicked herself up from the ground and turned around and shoulder charged him, crushing his body against the earthen wall. She grabbed the man’s head in her claw and slammed it against the wall repeatedly.

Paley was trapped. The earthen wall wasn’t hard, and the monster had a bad angle so most of the impact from the repeated blows was absorbed by his massive shoulder. But he couldn’t move and the sudden forward and backward motion of the monster grabbing and thrusting his head against the wall made it almost impossible for him to regain any kind of footing.
He reached up and gripped the monster’s forearm and threw his legs out, catching the thing in the knees. The monster howled painfully as it crumbled to the ground, his face and head suddenly free. He swung a wild haymaker at the things face and snout and connected solidly as the monster fell to the floor. Paley smiled a bit, maybe there was something to all those American movies he had watched when he was younger.
A jarring impact landed on the side of his face and he was sent sprawling onto his knees. He blinked hard as stars flooded his vision and he tried to get back to his feet. His furs wrapped around his neck and was suddenly jerked back and he couldn’t breathe. He reached for something as his body spasmed under the need for air that suddenly was no longer there.
He flexed his powerful neck muscles and held the furs at bay, allowing him to breathe, at least a little. He planted his feet and using all his rage and strength he pulled forward away from whatever had him. He took a slow step forward and then another and another. Gritting his teeth, he suddenly pushed back hard, throwing his body backwards, catching whatever had held him completely by surprise and landing hard on top of the monsters, furry stomach.
He writhed on top of the beast, throwing his elbows deep and hard, driving his elbows into the sides of the monsters, from the left and right sides. He wanted them all dead! How dare these monsters try to steal his prize! The girls were his, not for monsters to take.
His hair was suddenly yanked up and a powerful furry fist collided with his nose. Blood splashed over his face. Black splotches flooded his eye sight again. He was suddenly dizzy as he blinked hard trying to figure out what had just happened. Then the fist collided with his face again, and again, and again. He couldn’t see anything, he knew that he had lost some teeth in the new barrage, he tried to reach up and protect himself, but the fists kept raining down on him. He opened his eyes wide in rage and anger before the fist connected one last time and everything went black.
Hysminai dragged the body by its long blond hair off Michelle and dumped him unceremoniously in a corner. He found some straps, chains, and rope and bound the man, with his arms behind his back, his hands twisted up in between his shoulder blades, and his legs tied behind him.
Hysminai went to Keva first, afraid that she had been knocked unconscious again. She was still in her werewolf form, she hadn’t been knocked unconscious, but she was not exactly coherent either. He helped her to her feet, but there was no strength in her broken legs and she couldn’t stand by herself. Her eyes wildly tried to focus. He laid her back down on the ground and bit her on the upper leg and her shoulder.
