Interlude - Agua

Somewhere beneath the waves 1589 PGE

Deep beneath the oceans in a place that no natural light could ever reach a creature the size of an island slowly moved across the ocean floor. A single flap of one of it's flippers caused massive underwater tornados and a each breath from it's triangle head inhaled hundreds of fish. This colossal beast was a walking apocalypse for many of the fish that lived their entire lives down there, sheer unavoidable death from a creature that completely eclipsed them in size and yet for the past ten minutes the creature had been attempting unsuccessfully to take down a single being, a mere fraction of its size.

A roar like a bomb went off underwater causing deadly ripples to pulverize everything in front of it, carving chunks of the landscape to be vaporized and caused unlucky fish to turn into bursts of blood. However the all destroying waves of sound simply tapered out in front of a their target who merely sighed at the unnecessary destruction in front of it.

"Look Mr. Macrosaurus," a female voice spoke up casually, despite being underwater. "You're never going to be able to hurt me. I don't want to damage such a beautiful specimen, but you're causing serious damage to the wildlife. If you don't calm down then I am going to have to retaliate."

The only response was another sonic explosion from the colossus with a brain the size of a small dog and the woman sighed as she raised her hand, before she paused as her eyes caught a glimpse of something and she smiled. A small snake the size of her arm was casually swimming through the ocean, barely effected by the underwater tornados and explosions and even that awful suctioning force that devoured many fish. Instead it's forward facing eyes were locked onto the Macrosaurus and the woman kept very still, trying not to interfere with the hunt. Coming within fifty meters without the Macrosaurus even spotting it, the snake suddenly opened it's mouth and a small bullet shaped object flew out of it's mouth and pierced the skin of the Macrosaurus. The massive creature reared back as if pricked by a needle, but it was too late as in the next second another bullet and then another hit it in various different places, the process repeating until a dozen bullets had lodged themselves in the Macrosaurus.

The woman watched in fascination as various types of vegetation grew out from the wounds, and second by second the creature withered as it became nutrients for the massive plants. All it's struggles proved futile as it died under the dual gaze of the woman above it and the serpentine assassin. After a few minutes the creature was reduced to skin stretched over bones from which dozens of vines sprouted from. Giving the woman a wary look, the Seed Snake cautiously approached the vines sprouting from the carcass before feverishly biting down on the vines, eating several times it's body weight in seconds.

"Isn't nature beautiful," the woman remarked as she watched the brutal devouring. It was very rare to see Macrosaurus down this low. It was a known fact that deep in the Earth and Ocean the mana concentration was a lot higher than on the surface and while the Macrosaurus might prove to be a terror in the open ocean there were a great many dangerous fish in the depths that would see it as an easy meal. Even the dreaded Seed Snake was not devoid of predators. Smiling and committing the scene to memory with determination to paint it later, the woman ascended from the depths with a speed that would give a lesser being decompression sickness. She had recently had a familiar feeling dawn on her. It was the feeling when you were sleeping and everything was fine, but then as you continued to sleep and the alarm didn't go off your state of mind went from happy to questioning, to anxious, to worried, until you finally got out of bed and realize that you overslept by a whole lot.

Right now, her alarm back at her house hadn't gone off and yet she had a feeling that she had way overstayed her little vacation. Her neighbor may have gotten tired of feeding her fish, or something bad might have happened that wiped out her alarm before it could warn her. Without specific regulation her hyper-fixations would last days or even weeks, which was time she shouldn't have had. She burst from the water before touching down gently on the still ocean surface. Looking up at the clear sky, she quickly worked out directions before she leapt into the air and blue colored mana exploded outward from her feet as jets of flame that propelled her forward through the air at hypersonic speeds, like a futuristic rocket. In mere minutes the island continent of Skullnexus appeared in front of her and she was welcomed by the wildlife.

Of course, by welcome she meant that every flying creature in a sight aggressively entered her flight path, before actually seeing her and then thinking better of it. She was nearly to her home, situated just past Inferno Mountain, next to the Swamp of Eternal Life and the Valley of Madness, when she paused as a familiar feeling came over her. The sky changed, the air changed, the ground shifted as the River flowed backwards. In front of her eyes time turned backwards and the world reverted back to a previous state like somebody painting over a picture. It was the textbook definition of a time loop. Inwardly she sighed, as she realized there was only one person that she knew who could do that. She let herself put on a small smile as she realized that she hadn't seen that person in a while, and now she had the perfect excuse to go visit him under the guise of trying to figure out just what the hell was going on.

A melodious screeching tore her from her thoughts as the world was suddenly filled with fire and she blocked the conflagration with a thin shield of water. Ahead of her was glowing with power, it's sheer presence raising the level of fire mana in the atmosphere for hundreds of kilometers was a mature phoenix. The legendary immortal bird was normally not particularly aggressive, but she guessed that her sudden appearance as a result of the time reversion must have triggered it somehow. Oh, well she was going to see her brother soon and she was in a good mood so she would let it off.

"Ca__" she started before a wave of fire hotter than the sun vaporized the place where she was standing and she frowned at the annoying but ineffective attack. "Calm down," she finished giving the creature a glare. She was in a good mood, that didn't mean she was a pushover, especially not to an overgrown turkey. The only response was a wave of flame, even bigger than the last, even scraps of the pure white fire falling to the land causing disastrous fires to spring up.

"Chirp," the melodious voice said, a single syllable seeming to contain the confidence, superiority and disdain of one of the strongest beasts on the planet. That would be the last sound that it would ever make, because it was instantly turned into an ice sculpture as soon as it finished it's reply. For a brief moment it hung there motionless, the look of superiority frozen in an ironic display, before the newly created ice sculpture toppled to the ground, slamming into the forest floor and shattering into a million pieces. She believed that normally phoenixes could let out a death cry which may lead to her getting sieged, but in this case the death was far too fast for it to react in any way, and a quick glance towards Inferno Mountain indicated no reinforcements.

"I warned you," the woman defended herself. "I'm not good at talking," she admitted. "Maybe I should work on learning how to make more effective threats. I can always practice on my brother."

She smiled at the thought before she headed down to pack her bags and inform her neighbor Knicky that she was heading out on a long journey and he still needed to feed the fish. She then said goodbye to each one of her many different species of fish before she headed to the Central Continent to track down her brother.
