The year is 1943, the Allies have pushed the Germans back to the Siegfried line, but have came to a rolling stop, the Fuhrer had ordered construction of massive Fortress Cities hellbent on blocking the Allies from taking a foot inside Germany, meanwhile he secretly orders his researchers to create a bio-weapon that can act as a powerful toxin and kill the enemies of Germany outright, this experiment goes haywire and turns people into mindless zombies, the entire research facility is lost and in an attempt to stop the virus from spreading, the facility is burnt to the ground. All this does is erase ground zero and any possibility of finding a cure and fails to contain the aggressive spread of the virus.
In the east, things take a different turn as the battered Army Group South is completely decimated and Soviet Armoured formations steamroll into occupied Poland, Army Group North is completely encircled and left without supplies, having occupied Leningrad and entrenching themselves for the inevitable attack by the elite Soviet Guards formations. Army Group Centre has retreated and regrouped just outside Warsaw, facing heavy losses to the Polish resistance.
The 1. Fallschirmj?ger, veterans of the Benelux and Crete are not allowed to counter-attack and are ordered to completely halt and hold the half completed Fortress City of Aachen, however, only one of the four regiments arrive in Aachen, the 3. Fallschirmj?ger Regiment, commanded by Oberstleutnant Karl Rumplehart, who has received the Knight's Cross of the Iron's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds for his exemplary gallantry during the Fortress raid of Eben-Emael, capturing a thorn on the front with less than a hundred paratroopers at his command.

The Allies have made a habit of executing SS troops on sight due to their extreme fanaticism and refusal to surrender, and for their dirty tricks at killing Allies while feigning surrender.
Africa is completely lost and Erwin Rommel is forced to retreat back to Germany to mount up more defenses along the Siegfried line, this reinforces Germany with a couple extra Panzer and Panzergrenadier Divisions, something the Germans desperately need due to their lack of manpower and their complete loss of two entire Army Groups in the Eastern Front.
The 2. SS Panzer Division "Das Reich" has a small platoon stationed in the Fortress City Aachen, keep this in mind as it will be important later on.

The Fallschirmj?ger are elite German paratroopers under the Luftwaffe (German Airforce) lead by Generalmajor Kurt Student, who has successfully lead the operation on Crete with no bloodshed (a contrast to the historical happenings on Crete).
