Chapter 3, They have come.

As Johnas and Elfy were walking back to the village, they discussed how they were going to help Guinea. "So, how did you make that light appear, Elfy? it could be the key, to helping Guinea out." Elfy paused before answering. "I don't know, i just... did." Johnas gave him a curious look. "You just did? that doesn't help, are you sure maybe you didn't do something particular like, i don't know, say some special words or something?" Johnas persisted. "No, i didn't say anything special, i just remember moving without thinking, reaching out to something than grabbing it, then the light appeared and that's it." Johnas believed every word of what Elfy said, but couldn't comprehend how he could do something without knowing how he did it, so in an attempt to recreate it Johnas mimics what Elfy said as closely as he could.

Trying not to think of anything Johnas closed his eyes, then reached out, and grabbed the air then pulled, he opened his eyes, and there was nothing. "I guess it's not as simple as it sounds." Johnas said disheartened at his failed attempt. "Definitely keep trying Elfy, your the only one who's actually done it, maybe that means only you can do it." Johnas said with hope, Elfy nodded in agreement, continuing to copy the same motions of that night.

As time passes the night consumes them, the only light guiding there way being the light of the full moon, as they verged an opening in the tree line, they could see another light, it lit up the sky in the direction of the village it was red, and orange, and felt unwelcoming to look at. Johnas looked over to Elfy, as Elfy stared at the sky for a moment before, heading off into a sprint towards the village, Johnas followed, and without much effort he caught up to Elfy and kept pace with him.

They verged the edge of the forest, and could see flickers, and spires, of flames rising from the village. They both froze, when they reached the edge of the hill, Johnas's home lived on. "Oh, no." Was all Johnas could muster in that moment, as he looked down into the village to the sight of a raid. Dozens of men on horse back, with swords, spears, clubs, and torches. as they rode through the village they killed the men, in anyway they could, stabbing, slashing, beheading, clubbing, trampling. Johnas winced away at the horrid sight, looking over to Elfy who's mouth was agape. "Elfy?" Johnas asked concerned for his friend, without warning Elfy took off into a full sprint towards the village. "Elfy!" Johnas called out, but Elfy showed no signs of slowing down, Johnas mustered what little courage he could, and ran after him.

Upon reaching the bottom of the hill, Johnas had just barely caught up to, Elfy who was running faster than before, Johnas proceeded to tackle Elfy, and pin him to the ground, Elfy struggled but couldn't break loose from johnas's hold. "What are you doing Elfy?!" Johnas tried to stay calm, but they were no more than a hundred yards from the village now. "Let go Johnas, we have to save Guinea!" Elfy continued to struggle against Johnas, but Johnas's training had made him more than capable of holding him still. "Elfy, if we go in there, it's very likely we'll die." Johnas shook Elfy to keep him still as he said this, Elfy looked back at johnas. "And i thought friends helped each other." Elfy didn't blink as he stared firmly at Johnas, Johnas was hurt by what Elfy was implying, and in the end he let go of Elfy. "Let's go find Guinea." Johnas said somberly, Elfy nodded.

They snuck up to a house on the edge of the village and peered around, they saw a small group of raiders bickering about something. "let's check the other side." Johnas whispered to Elfy, as they moved to the other side, they could hear footsteps coming around, they looked at each other not knowing what to do, shortly someone walked around the corner, they wore cheaply made cloth armor that only protected a few parts of there body, there chest, thighs, shins, biceps, shoulders, and there forearms, he was a bit taller than a Johnas but about as muscular as him with the armor. "Well, well, well, i thought we got all the young men guess there's more fun to be had." the raider looked down at Johnas, and Elfy, with a disturbing grin on his face. without warning, Johnas dashed at the man and tackled him to the ground. "Hey..." *Gag* before the raider could yell Johnas with all his strength punched him directly in the throat, the man *Gasped* desperate for air but couldn't breath Johnas quickly realized he crushed this mans throat, effectively killing him, trying to stay calm Johnas stayed crouched moved around and grabbed the dying man by the shoulders than dragged him back to the cover of the building, it felt like forever, before the man stopped throwing himself around reaching for the air he could never breath again, but when he finally did Johnas finally looked over to Elfy, who had visible terror in his eyes, Johnas could understand he wondered if he had that same look in his eyes right now, but didn't think to long for fear he would lose his prior bravery... or stupidity.

"Quickly, help me undress him Elfy." Elfy looked at Johnas in disturbed awe, Johnas glanced at him before responding. "Elfy if i wear this armor, i have a chance of moving around the village without them catching me, and i can more freely look for Guinea so help me quick, before another one shows up." Elfy hesitantly began to help Johnas.

In less than a minute Johnas had switched clothes with the dead raider making sure to put his clothes on the raider, he then looked around. "What are you looking for?" Elfy asked, Johnas didn't answer it took him no more than a second to find a large stone that had fallen from the upper part of the building, he grabbed it, walked back over to the body, and smashed it's head repeatedly, until there was nothing, but a bloody pulp left, the blood, and brain matter, splattered on both Elfy, and Johnas, it didn't take long for Elfy to start vomiting at the sight of this gruesome act, he then quickly looked back to Johnas more terror in his face than before, Johnas looked back at him looking sickly pale. "I have to take his body with me, but if they saw his face they would've recognized him, and killed me." Johnas gagged every few words trying not to throw up, in the end he moved away from the body a couple feet, and threw up, he kept going, even when there was nothing left to throw up, he dry heaved, trying to stop him self he punched himself in the face trying to stop himself from vomiting through pain, it worked well enough. "Elfy, i need you to wait at my house, make sure you aren't seen, and hide there, when i find Guinea i'll head back there." "Johnas spoke raspily due to his stomach acids burning his throat, Elfy shook wildly but nodded, and started to head back towards the hill. Johnas waited for a moment until Elfy was far enough away, he grabbed the body by it's foot and dragged it walking into the village. "Please work." Johnas repeated these words in his head over, and over, when he made it to the front of the building, on the street where the raiders were, he looked over to there group for a moment, before walking in a different direction. "Please don't notice me." Johnas held his breath, not knowing what he would do if one of them recognized he wasn't one of them.

"HEY!" Johnas heard one of them call out but didn't want to believe they were talking to him. "Hey, fuck face, over here!" Johnas was certain they were talking to him, he turned around and looked over to the group who were now all staring at him, he saw one of them pointed at him, and gestured with his index finger, for Johnas to come over, Johnas walked over still dragging the body behind him. "I'm gonna die." Johnas was sure they found out, he wasn't one of them, and that they were going to kill him, if there was only one maybe he could over power them in a struggle, but there was roughly 5 of them, even if he beat one, the others would be able to finish him quickly, Johnas finally stopped just a couple feet from the one that called him over. "Hey newbie." the raider spoke to Johnas. "Yes, sir." Johnas responded, a moment passed before the group started laughing hysterically. "Hahahahaha." it was a deep, belly laugh, Johnas was confused why they were laughing. "Your dead meat kid, you weren't supposed to smash any heads in this raid, the boss wanted as many in tact as possible." The man threw his arm around Johnas's shoulder, Johnas tried to keep his composure. "I don't understand why would we keep them in tact?" Johnas asked with genuine confusion. "Ah, you must be really new, well i guess if you're going to die anyway, i might as well tell ya." He leaned in close to Johnas's ear and whispered. "rumor has it the boss is a Fate Eater." Johnas pulled away from the man and gave him a look of discomfort. "I... i thought fate eaters were only in stories, and legends, how could the boss be one?" Johnas spoke in disbelief. "Shhh" All of them hushed him at once. "If the boss finds out we said something like that we're all dead." He said, with a tinge of fear, but mostly anger, in his voice, Johnas nodded. "Good you might stupid, but at least your quick enough, to know one dead is better than 6." The raider spoke in a demeaning tone. "Where should i leave the body?" Johnas asked, the raider looked at him dumbfounded. "You have to be fucking joking, there's no way your this retarded. Go to the town center and leave the body there, you fucking, fateless, hick." He shoved Johnas, Johnas stumbled for a moment but quickly caught his balance, he turned around and started heading towards the town center.

  Stolen novel; please report.

"I can't believe i'm alive." Johnas mumbled to himself, still in shock they didn't kill him, once he was out of sight of the group Johnas dropped the body and continued to walk through the town mostly using alley ways so as to avoid getting stopped by any more raiders.

As Johnas was walking down an alley, he heard someone call out. "Johnas." Johnas's eyes opened wide in terror looking around for the owner of the voice. partly burried in rubble, a man was reaching out to Johnas, he was large and muscular, it took Johnas a moment to recognize him with all the ash, and dirt, on him, but Johnas finally recognized him. "Sal?" Johnas responded, after quickly scanning his surroundings to make sure there weren't any raiders nearby, Johnas quickly made his way over to Sal, and started to try and unbury him from the rubble. "Johnas, please help me." Sal cried as he spoke. "Shh, Sal i need you to be quiet, if they find us they'll kill us both." Johnas spoke in a hushed tone, as he continued to pull rubble off Sal's body. "Oh no. no, no, no." Johnas spoke panicked at what he saw. "What. what is it?" Sal asked afraid of the answer, when johnas finished pulling the rubble off Sal's legs, he saw one was mangled beyond compare, and the other severed at the knee only being held on by tendons. "Sal... i'm so sorry." Johnas spoke dejectedly. "Johnas, please, what is it?" Sal's voice shook with each word. "Your legs... there..." "Who's down here?!" Johnas and Sal looked in unison to where the voice came from.

the voice came from a young women, who looked to be around there age, she had dark black hair, put up into a messy bun, she had dark brown eyes, that looked almost black, and a deep scar, running length wise, underneath her left eye, she had pale, thin lips, and a vertical gash, to the right side of her upper lip, she was about a foot shorter than Johnas, and wore partial plate mail, covering her chest and forearms the rest of her body was covered in crude leather armor.

"I was just checking for anymore survivors." Johnas responded hoping his voice didn't betray him. "Well... have you found any?!" She was slowly approaching, with her hand clutching her sword to her side, it was around half her body in length. "Play dead." Johnas whispered to Sal before standing up. "No, Mam." She reached Johnas shortly, and looked where Johnas was crouched, Johnas followed her gaze down to Sal, Sal was doing an impressive job looking dead at least, to Johnas he did, Johnas could only hope that was enough to fool this women. "Why were you crouching." She asked Johnas in a flat piercing tone. "He looked like someone i used to know, thought they might be the same person, i was mistaken." Johnas tried to sound confident in his answer, but wasn't sure she was buying it, she looked at him, then grabbed his face with one hand, and pulled his face closer to hers, she stared into his eyes intensely. "Uuh." Johnas tried to muster words but nothing came out. "Shut. your damn. mouth." She said sternly, Johnas didn't attempt to speak again, even though her stature lacked intimidation, Johnas still felt fear when being close to her, something about her presence screamed. "DANGER!" She stared for what felt longer than a minute, before she let go of his face. "Why did you do tha..." *Oof* Before Johnas could finish his sentence she punched him right in his solar plexus. "What part of shut your damn mouth do you not understand." She said, as she switched her sword from her left hand, to her right, then raising it above her head, Johnas began to cower, believing she was going to kill him for not listening, she swung the sword downward, Johnas shut his eyes, and all Johnas heard was. *Fwooh* He didn't feel the blade slicing into him, he opened his eyes looking at her. "He was still alive, but i guess you already knew that." Johnas's heart skipped a beat he looked down to Sal and his head was now laying against Johnas's foot, separated from it's body.

Johnas turned around to run away, but she was very quick, as soon as Johnas planted his foot to pivot, she sliced his achilles tendon, causing Johnas to fall forward, he crawled desperate to get away from her. "You know, i never thought you would've lived this long." Johnas froze concerned at what she meant, but quickly he pushed on, his mind thinking. "She's trying to kill me i need to get away as fast as possible." She was walking next to him as he crawled, keeping pace with him, like a cat playing with a mouse before it kills it. "I guess i should explain myself before dropping that on you, my name is Krisia." Johnas froze but this time his mind went numb to. "How could this be possible, is she implying she's my sister, but that's impossible she's dead, but how else would she know that name." Questions, on top of questions, piled in his mind but none of them brought him any closer to understanding the truth. "Yes, your my twin brother, it's lovely to actually get to meet you." She said mockingly, as she stabbed her sword into his thigh going deep into the flesh. "AAAHHHH!" Johnas screamed in agony, his mind blank from the pain. "Shh, don't be such a pussy." She wiggled the sword sinking it deeper, boring the hole in his thigh. "STOOOPP!" Johnas plead. "Stop? give me a good reason to." Johnas was crying from the pain. "how about this i'll stop needlessly hurting you if you can answer one question correctly." She grabbed his face, and lifted it to look at hers as she said this, Johnas barely nodded. "Why, did our mother choose you, over me." Johnas's mind panged, trying to think. "You have 3 seconds to answer." She said chuckling. "p... please. i- i don't... know." Johnas spoke just barely over a whisper. "WHAT! i'm sorry brother your going to have to speak up." She wiggled the sword more violently, it now poked through to the other side of his leg. "AAAAHHHHHH!" Johnas screamed, desperate for the pain to stop. "Pleasestop. Idon'tknowwhyshechosemeoveryoupleasejuststop!" He cried out, each word mangled with the other.

A moment passes before Krisia speaks. "That's right." She said in a giddy voice, as she ripped the sword out of Johnas's thigh. "AAH!" Johnas yelped. "Wow brother, your so smart, no wonder mom wanted you, more than me." She spoke sarcastically, then she grabbed him by the back of his shirt and dragged him out of the alley. "Where are you taking." Johnas mumbled. "To the boss, for a having so little fate left, you still have quite a bit." Her voice was flat.

A moment passes before they arrive at the town center, Johnas barely hanging onto consciousness looks around eye's going dark for a moment, the gruesome sight before him nearly causing Johnas to revive from his pain induced state, what he saw was a pile of bodies stacked nearly ten feet high at the center, and a tall thin man stood at the top. "WHERE IS HE!!!" The man yelled. "Carfis!" Krisia called to the man, he turned to look, and saw them, he quickly made his way down the bodies to Krisia and Johnas. "Is this him, is he the one i came for?" He sounded like an addict. "No, but he still has a lot of fate, i'd recommend consuming it to fend the hunger off." He starts scratching violently at his neck. "Alright let me look at his fate." He reaches down, gripping into Johnas's face, pulling his close then looking deeply into his eyes, a moment passes until. "Let him go!" A familiar voice rings out, the man let's go of Johnas to look at this new person, and Johnas strains to look over, he see's his Mother there.

Johnas watched as his Mother reached into the air, and grabbed at something, and started to move her hands in a strange motion. "She's a fate weaver!" Carfis yelled out, and from all directions raiders were heading towards the town center, when she finished her hand motions, out of thin air a halberd made of Wind formed in her hands. "Johnas run!" "Mom nooo." Johnas tried to cry out but couldn't. "Kill him! his fate is worthless, i'll consume hers instead." Carfis yelled over to Krisia, who dropped Johnas to the ground. "I guess this is the end brother." She said as she plunged her sword directly into his heart, Johnas silently screamed.

  His thoughts went dark.

  "This is the end"

  "killed by own sister."

"and i couldn't even save Guinea."

"i hope Elfy can forgive me."

  "I'll miss you Mom."

Finally his mind went silent, as he let go he felt nothing but emptiness, in his death.
