Birds eye view

Far far off into the wilderness there's a bird that visits the nearby river each and every day. The bird looks at the fishes splashing about with a tinge of curiosity, a curiosity that grows by the day.

Sometimes the bird would think to itself can I do that? until eventually it dips one foot into the water. The shiver that runs up its body is… surprisingly refreshing.

As the days went by the bird began to go deeper and deeper till eventually the bird fully had almost submerged itself into the river.

When the bird got out of the water it would be soaking wet meaning it could not fly until it had dried off. Yes it was inconvenient as well as annoying to wait to dry off but nonetheless the bird continued to do so out of the pure joy it would feel as it moved about in water.

“Pesky feathers” the bird thought as it shivered in wait to dry before it could leave.

Suddenly it had an idea what if it got rid of the feathers? Would I be able to swim then?

“They regrow anyways, right?” the bird thought.

Starting that moment, it began to pluck away at its feathers from the root until it could no more. Now with a step into the river the bird felt as if it had been liberated, it tried to swim as if it had flown, but it could not. The bird was swept up into the river's flow and couldn't escape the grip that the stream had on it. It tried and tried but nothing came from its relentless struggle, its dream was in front of it, but the bird couldn't grasp the opportunity.

After a while of drifting the bird had swept up pretty far away, throughout many days now the bird would struggle to live feeding off of things it would typically only eat for a small refresher as a whole meal. The bird longed for food, for its life before but the feathers took too long to grow, it couldn't eat, it couldn't survive, and so the bird wanted to fly.

It dreaded itself for its own actions, for it had now lost the one thing it had been born with. The bird had been so focused on what it could not do that it couldn't see what it could do, it had been born with a bird's eye view. Always looking down the bird could not see what was up, so it clipped its own wings to have what it could not.

Once the bird lost something it always had, it now wants it back in exchange for the thing it had once dreamed for.

So, the bird climbed, it climbed a tall tall mountain. At the top he looked below once more, a view he could not live anymore, so for the last time the bird jumped, and fell.

The bird knew it would but knowing that it fell meant that for a brief moment, it once again flew.
