“So human, why have you intruded into our Yhaku village?” The girl then poked me with her icicle.
“Would you believe me if I said it was an accident?”
The girl narrowed her eyes. “Yet you have a method to copy our skin tone and temperature and even came close to the camp, who are you.” She poked me once again.
“I’m just a hunter and I have hypothermia.”
“Hypo… what.” She poked once more.
“It’s when I nearly freeze to death.”
“So, you came here with your dying breath, was it a wish to see our tribes women?” She poked me in the head this time.
“No, I… don’t have anywhere to go so I just picked a direction and went there.”
“Ah, I see, a wanderer.” She poked me again. “Many come here after losing everything.”
“Can you stop poking me.”
“Nope.” she giggled as she poked me. It wasn’t even sharp; it was just a large ice stick.
“Aveeno, give the kid a break, he looks like a mess.”
“Fffffffiiiiiine.” She said as she poked me.
The man unraveled me and allowed me to stretch my stiff limbs.
“Thank you, um.”
“Glynn.”
“Thank you, Glynn.”
“Uh, can I know how far is Ashwood from here?”
This time the tribe leader spoke up. “Ashwood? It’s about twenty-seven miles from here.”
Holy. On the way to Ashwood, the caravan was only five miles away, what kind of willpower did I have to travel twenty-two miles.
The girl poked me in the chest. “Glynn found you just inside the magical barrier, where did you come from?"
"Yeah, there were no tracks in the snow, you just kinda showed up. I thought you were one of us because you were, well blue, had white hair, and appeared without triggering the barrier so.”
Wait white hair? I had black hair.
“I honestly don’t know how I got here, I spun my arrow to find a direction to go and followed it, I hallucinated seeing your tribe from a distance before I fell unconscious and saw stars all around me.
“Woah, you saw the stars too?” She poked me. “I saw them today too!”
“Interesting…” The tribe leader then rummaged in his chest again before he threw a small orb towards me. “Please, entertain my daughter.”
“What is this for?”
“If you saw the stars, that means you awakened your magic.”
“Oh” I held the orb and examined it. “Then what is this orb for?”
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
It’s to see your elemental affinity and it’s concentration. Most people of our village have the ice affinity. I’m curious what a human affinity like yours is.”
“How… do I use it?”
“The simplest way is to just put your blood on it, give it a try.”
I carefully unwrapped some bandages and dripped some blood onto the orb.
The orb gobbled my blood before excreting some sticky purple powder.
“OOooh purple.” She gently poked me this time.
“What does this mean?” I also saw my body turn purple during my hallucinations, but I was completely new to magic.
“I think its shadow?”
“No” she poked Glynn. “Shadow and darkness are black and would turn the room dark.”
“Do you guys know all the types of magic there is?”
Glynn shook his head. “From the color of the rainbows, excluding purple, we can know the first tier magics and from those, there are many different types of magic. Red is fire, orange is earth, yellow is light, light green is wind, dark green is nature, light blue is ice, dark blue is water, purple is… black is darkness.”
“So out of all the colors, I got the one no one knows.”
“Yep.” Poke.
“Well,” The tribe leader spoke up. “You are free to stay in our village, you have one week of support from us before we leave you to yourself. You are dismissed.”
Glynn and Aveeno thanked the tribe leader before bringing me away.
I looked at the large blue fire in the middle of the village, just looking at it gave me warmth despite snow piling around it.
Aveeno noticed my gaze and poked me. “It’s our sacred Frostfire, it takes the cold away from living beings making them warm and turning itself colder. It could do vice versa too!”
Although I was no longer numb due to the cold, I became numb to Aveeno’s constant poking.
“Aveeno, how about you take these zyther fur and ask ma to make clothes for our new friend.”
“Kay.” She poked me as a farewell gift before skipping with the fur in her arms.
Me and Glynn continued down the path.
“Sorry about her, this is her first time seeing a human and she is excited to use her ice magic.”
“Oh, I noticed you guys keep referring to me as a human, may I ask what race you guys are?”
“We are frost elves, I thought you would figure out from the blue skin and long ears.”
I glanced at my arms that were pale but still had a tinge of blue on them.
“Yeah, I assumed you guys were also frozen like me. So, where are we going?”
“We are going to make your new home; you can’t really live with the tribe but you can live on the periphery of the village.”
We walked until the snow came up to our knees.
Glynn waved his hands slightly before blocks of snow formed from the surrounding snow, the knee high snow was no longer around and instead was a bunch of blue tinted grass.
He then waved his hands again but with more force and stacked the blocks until it formed an igloo, it was quite large but much, much smaller than the biggest igloo.
He then left for the village telling me to decorate my new house while he went off to find Aveeno.
I entered my new home. Somehow it was warm inside and felt cozy, there was a snow bed that didn’t break apart when I sat on it and an ice table and chair.
I spilt my blood-stained arrows onto the table.
About six arrows were still fine, four snapped shafts with three arrow heads. I originally had thirty arrows.
I don’t know why I was counting my arrows; this was always a habit after hunting, I can’t even use a bow anymore because I lost a hand.
I thought about how Glynn used ice magic to make snow blocks. Maybe my magic would allow me to make a new hand to use a bow again? I doubt it.
Other than my arrows and quiver, I had my clothes which were ripped and *pat* I have two gloves in my pocket. I struggled a lot to put one on.
I then used my quiver and went outside to gather snow.
Eventually a pile of snow formed on the table. I used the snow to wash the blood and grim away from my wounds and cleaned my arrows.
I left the igloo and arrows strolled towards the village. This time I had a good look around.
In the field of snow, I saw many white snakes that had white fur, each of them were long and sleeping in the fields.
I then turned my gaze to the village; from a distance I counted at least twenty-four igloos.
It just began to turn dawn and men were gathering in groups of three. After four groups were formed, they each headed in a different direction towards the forest beyond the village.
I assumed these were hunting groups.
I continued to the village, it was only until then I realized that I didn’t know where Glynn or Aveeno was.
A snowball then struck me on the head.
I looked around and saw two small children making snowballs before throwing them at me.
I chuckled as I caught one before lightly throwing it back.
A snowball then whistled by before another one hit my head with a thud. I nearly lost my balance and fell.
I felt my head, there was blood and shards of ice inside the snowball. Damn I just cleaned myself.
“Why is a dirty human here?”
I looked and saw a young man casually tossing a snowball up and down.
“Get out, the next one won’t be as soft.”
